Trailer Round-Up: 300: Rise of an Empire, Don Jon, Fading Gigolo, and More
To start off the week, I’ll be presenting the newest trailers over the past week. Below you’ll find 300: Rise of Empire, Don Jon, Fading Gigolo, Bears, A.C.O.D., C.O.G., and Blue Caprice.
Check back tomorrow for the newest posters!
A short, but to-the-point, UK trailer for 300: Rise of an Empire released this week. The movie was previously slated for a 2013 release but got pushed back to March 7, 2014. Noam Murro took the directorial reigns from Zack Snyder in the 300 “sidequel.” The minute(ish) trailer shows you all the action you need to pump you up.
The second trailer, which was also only about a minute long, released for Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s directorial debut Don Jon. It stars JGL, Scarlett Johansson, and Julianne Moore (Children of Men) and the trailer tries to be as meta as possible. To me that’s okay because it looks like a more original romantic comedy than we’re used to seeing. The movie will be in theaters September 27th.
John Turturro (Passione) is directing another movie and it released a trailer in front of its Toronto International Film Festival screening. The comedy, titled Fading Gigolo, stars the likes of Liev Schreiber (Goon), Sharon Stone (Basic Instinct), Sofia Vergara (ABC’s Modern Family), and Woody Allen. Take a run at the trailer for more information.
Disneynature’s Bears documentary released its first trailer. Directed by Alastair Fothergill and Keith Scholey (both of African Cats), will continue the string of interesting nature docs by Disney. Obviously, this one will focus on bears and, more specifically, newborn cubs. The movie releases April 18, 2014.
After a new poster last week, A.C.O.D. came out with the first trailer. The title stands for “Adult Children of Divorce” and is about just that subject. It stars Adam Scott and Amy Poehler (both of NBC’s Parks and Recreation), Jessica Alba (Fantastic Four), Jane Lynch (Fox’s Glee), and Richard Jenkins (The Cabin in the Woods). It’s written and directed by Stu Zicherman and will hopefully have a release date soon.
Another acronym movie title, this one called C.O.G., released a trailer. Kyle Patrick Alvarez (Easier with Patience) serves as writer-director in a comedy about a guy (Jonathan Groff) who travels to Oregon to work on an apple farm. It also stars Troian Bellisario (ABC Family’s Pretty Little Liars) and Corey Stoll (The Bourne Legacy). The movie will be available starting September 20.
The last trailer I have is for a movie that was interestingly based on the Beltway sniper rampage years ago. The movie, titled Blue Caprice, stars Joey Lauren Adams (Big Daddy) and Isaiah Washington (Romeo Must Die) and is directed by Alexandre Moors. We’ll see how the movie actually does (both critically and financially) but the first trailer is available above. A release date is still undetermined.
That does it for this week. Which movie excites you the most? Right now, my money is on A.C.O.D.
