The Best Movie Bodyguards to Hire
When it comes to bodyguards, the choice can be fairly narrow-minded. People first think of the movies that feature bodyguards (hello, Kevin Costner!), and then think of the ones who did their job the best. I decided to take a different approach.
You see, there are bodyguards… and then there are the guys that you would love to have watching your back. Those two things aren’t always the same. Bodyguards tend to face the constraints of the job, while your everyday tough guys can do whatever it takes to get the job done. I mean, if Kevin Costner makes you feel safe while a hit man is hunting you down, then that’s your prerogative. Me? I’ve got a different set of guys I’d like to have watching my back.
I don’t know why, but the minute I associate Bruce Willis with the image of a bodyguard, I feel much safer. Maybe it’s all the years of playing the tough guy with a heart of gold. This is especially true of his role as John McClane. Protecting his wife? Top of his ‘to do’ list. Keeping a close eye on a kid hacker? Consider it done. When it comes to John McClane, there is no getting caught in the crossfire. The only people who die around John McClane are the ones he kills himself. McClane has all the skills to make him a good bodyguard. He has good instincts, he’s clever, and most importantly, he’s brave (incidentally, this is not the same as fearless — if he was fearless, he wouldn’t have to talk to himself all the time).
Travelling with these guys as bodyguards almost guarantees to put you in the line of fire every day. It also guarantees that you will be one of the safest, most well protected people on the planet. Nobody messes with these guys on purpose, and if they do, they learn very quickly that this is a bad idea. These guys are the best of the best and the toughest of the tough. The best part is that even if one goes down, you’ll still have plenty of manpower to keep you safe and from harm. Jet Li, Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham. Who would you like protecting you today?
There are very few things more dangerous in life than a man who has nothing left to lose. Walt Kowalski is your traditional anti hero: he’s tough, plays by his own set of rules, carries a big gun, and has a soft spot for the weak. And even though he may not like the idea of having to protect someone else, he always does the right thing in the end, no matter what. What else do you need to feel safe? Of course, he’s a hard one to win over in the first place. Just find a way to get under his skin in a good way and this guy will be sure to do anything he can to make you feel safe and secure. And if anyone tries to stop him or get in his way? Watch out.
If there’s one cop who always means serious business, it’s Nicholas Angel. Tight-fisted and always careful with his job, Nicholas always does what’s right and good like a pissed off force of nature. Now take away the limitations that being an officer of the law places on him and watch what he can really do. Nicholas Angel the officer is the guy you want to keep you safe on a routine walk from point A to point B. But Nicholas Angel the avenger? He’s the guy who will take out anybody to keep you safe. Even if a priest posed a threat, Nicholas is your man.
When Jayne’s not putting himself and his own needs first, he’s a fairly handy bodyguard. He’s a quick shot, is cautiously suspicious, and is usually able to turn any bad situation around (even if it means trading off his friends to do so). If you make sure not to trust him farther than you can throw him and watch your back, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t find Jayne a fairly successful bodyguard. And if you offer him money in exchange? Now you’re speaking his language. With a couple of golden promises, there’s little he won’t blow up and few he won’t kill to keep you protected.
What do you think? Any movie characters that you’d like watching your back?
