Trailer Round-Up: Divergent, Thanks for Sharing, and More
Happy Labor Day everybody! With your time off, you can check out some trailers for some upcoming movies. It’s not exactly the most star-studded edition of Trailer Round-Up, but there’s plenty to see from some lesser-known movies.
Below, check out the trailers for Divergent, Thanks for Sharing, Palo Alto, All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, Dead Before Dawn 3D, Ass Backwards, and We Are What We Are. Check back tomorrow for the newest posters!
The first teaser for Divergent finally released. As one of next year’s most anticipated movies (especially in the first quarter of the year), it was about time we got something. Although it wasn’t nearly as exciting as the stuff I saw at Comic-Con, it does get the ball rolling. Expect a full trailer in the coming months. It stars Shailene Woodley (The Descendants) and Theo James (CBS’s Golden Boy) and is directed by Neil Burger (Limitless). The movie officially releases March 21, 2014.
A second trailer for the sex addiction dramedy Thanks for Sharing released online as well. The movie stars Mark Ruffalo (The Avengers), Tim Robbins (The Shawshank Redemption), and Gwyneth Paltrow (Iron Man). The timing makes sense since the film plays at the Toronto International Film Festival in less than a week before it releases theatrically September 20th. Stuart Blumberg is the director.
Gia Coppola’s first feature, Palo Alto, released its first trailer. The dark drama, involving troubled teens, has notable starpower including James Franco (This is the End), Emma Roberts (We’re the Millers), and Val Kilmer (Top Gun). The release date is still unknown.
All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, starring Amber Heard, released a trailer in front of a September 6th Internet release date and October 11th theatrical release. So get this: Mandy Lane was completed back in 2006 (explaining why Heard and others look different) by Jonathan Levine (50/50), but still hasn’t released in the United States. While that looks to finally be changing, it seems very unusual. Check out the long overdue trailer for the grindhouse horror above.
Sticking with the horror trend, I’ve attached a Dead Before Dawn 3D trailer. April Mullen is in charge of the adventure/horror/comedy starring Devon Bostick (Diary of a Wimpy Kid). The movie will also release on October 11th.
In my favorite titled movie from this week, I present to you Ass Backwards. June Diane Raphael (Girl Most Likely) and Casey Wilson (NBC’s Saturday Night Live) wrote and star in the buddy comedy. It’s directed by Chris Nelson and follows the two “losers” as they road trip home to hopefully claim an anniversary pageant crown. The movie comes out November 8th.
Jim Mickle’s (Stake Land) remake of the Mexican thriller of the same name, We Are What We Are, unveiled a trailer, too. It stars Julia Garner (Martha Marcy May Marlene) and Ambyr Childers (The Master). If you’re interested in the movie, I’d check out the trailer.
Thanks for tuning in and enjoy your last day before the week starts back up!
