Trailer Round-Up: August: Osage County, Mandela, and More
Happy Monday folks! In this week’s edition of Trailer Round-Up, I’ll be attaching the latest trailers for August: Osage County, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, Grudge Match, Homefront, The Railway Man, Mr. Nobody, and Escape From Tomorrow.
Check back tomorrow for the newest posters!
The second trailer for the upcoming August: Osage County released in theaters and online last week. Benedict Cumberbatch (Star Trek Into Darkness), Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep, and more star in the film adaptation of Tracy Letts’ play. The dark comedy could be an awards contender, so it’s worth noting the December 25th release date. John Wells is the director.
Another trailer for Justin Chadwick’s Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom also released. Starring Idris Elba (Pacific Rim) as Nelson Mandela, the biographical film releases November 29th. It also stars Naomie Harris (Skyfall).
Peter Segal’s (Get Smart) Grudge Match, starring Sylvester Stallone and Robert De Niro, debuted a new trailer. Coming out December 25th as well, the boxing comedy probably won’t be as much an awards stealer as an entertainer. Check out the trailer above if it two old boxing foes returning to the rink sounds like your idea of fun.
With an unlikely duo of Jason Statham (Transporter) and James Franco (Pineapple Express), Homefront has something for everyone apparently. Although you would think Statham would play a meth kingpin, Franco has continued to channel his inner-Spring Breakers for this role. Gary Fleder’s (The Express) directed the action-thriller which will release November 27th.
Coming off a Toronto International Film Festival screening, The Railway Man released a trailer online. It stars Colin Firth (The King’s Speech) and Nicole Kidman (Rabbit Hole), but the trailer is the closest thing we have to a release at this time. It’ll play in Australia starting December 26th, but a U.S. release date hasn’t been set. The film adaptation was directed by Jonathan Teplitzky.
Jared Leto (Requiem for a Dream) has been getting a lot of attention lately for his buzzy performance in Dallas Buyer’s Club. Not to be lost in the shuffle, Mr. Nobody released a trailer also showcasing Leto. You can check it out above before Jaco Van Dormael’s sci-fi drama finally hits theaters September 26th (online) and November 1st (limited theaters). I say “finally” because the film has been playing since 2009 in various festivals and markets.
Speaking of interesting projects, make sure to check out the trailer for Escape From Tomorrow. The buzz around the film hasn’t been all positive, but some buzz is good buzz right? The film was apparently shot using guerrilla tactics on location at Disney World and Disnelyand without permission. The secretive film released at Sundance and will come out in theaters starting October 11th. Randy Moore directed the film and (believe it or not) it’s a fantasy-horror movie of all things.
