Poster Mania: Divergent, Oldboy, Thor: The Dark World, and More
With a healthy dose of upcoming big-budget films, thrillers, and all the Josh Brolin you can ask for, this week has a bit of everything in Poster Mania. Be sure to catch up on the newest trailers, too.
Enjoy the new posters…
It’s been too long since we had a Young Adult book series adaptation, but don’t worry guys, just a couple months to go! Before Divergent does make it to theaters March 21, 2014, at least we’ll get the next Hunger Games movie. Before all that, though, are two posters for Neil Burger’s Divergent. They show the two main characters – Shailene Woodley (The Descendants) and Theo James (CBS’s Golden Boy).
Spike Lee’s (Inside Man) Oldboy remake released a hammer-wielding Josh Brolin (Men in Black III) poster. Plenty of exciting names are attached to the film, including Sharlto Copley (Elysium), Elizabeth Olsen (Martha Marcy May Marlene), and Samuel L. Jackson. The thriller will released November 27th. Marvel released a new poster for Thor: The Dark World. Unlike all the other posters, this one doesn’t feature one of the big names attached to the film. Instead, it shows Sif (playing by Jaimie Alexander) as she walks through a battlezone. The Dark World, directed by Alan Taylor (HBO’s Game of Thrones), will hit theaters November 8th. Another Josh Brolin-starrer – this one titled Labor Day – released a poster. It also stars Kate Winslet (Titanic) and is Jason Reitman’s (Juno) next film. Brolin plays an escaped convict taken in by a lonely single mother (Winslet) to avoid a manhunt. It’ll release in limited theaters December 25th. (Source: /Film)
A simple black-and-white poster for Alexander Payne’s (The Descendants) Nebraska came online, too. Although the film is set for a limited release November 15th, it could make waves if it continues to garner strong reviews (it’s been playing at film festivals recently). It stars Bruce Dern (Coming Home) and Will Forte (NBC’s Saturday Night Live). Like the poster, the movie will be in black-and-white.
Two posters for the Palme d’Or winner Blue is the Warmest Color also released. They come along with their newest trailer. As the posters hint, the story is about a lesbian couple’s relationship. While it doesn’t sound like my kind of movie, I can’t get over the fact that it won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. Therefore, I’ll try my hardest to check out Abdellatif Kechiche’s film on October 25th in the U.S. (Source: IndieWire)
Also coinciding with its trailer release, The Last Days on Mars released a poster. The space thriller stars Liev Schreiber (who is seen towering over the poster) and is directed by Ruairi Robinson. It’ll hit theaters December 6th. (Source: Collider)
