Poster Mania: The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, and More
Welcome to this week’s Poster Mania! Below you will find eight total posters for seven different movies, which include The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, Inside Llewyn Davis, Machete Kills, Mandela: A Long Walk to Freedom, Free Birds, and Charlie Countryman.
If you missed yesterday’s trailers, check them out here.
Another poster for the hotly anticipated The Hunger Games: Catching Fire released online yesterday. Featuring only the main character – Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) – the poster is definitely for fanboys (or fangirls) around the world. Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend) is taking over the director’s chair and the movie releases November 22th. (Source: Comingsoon)
Two new wide banners released for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. Peter Jackson’s next installment in his Lord of the Rings/Hobbit universe won’t release until December 13th, and it seems like it has been awhile since we’ve seen anything new for the movie. It returns Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, and the rest of the gang. (Source: Twitter)
An international poster hit the web for the Coen Brothers’ Inside Llewyn Davis. The movie will land in limited theaters a week before The Hobbit on December 6th. It stars Oscar Isaac (For Greater Glory), Carey Mulligan (The Great Gatsby), and Justin Timberlake. (Source: IMP Awards)
Amber Heard’s (The Rum Diary) character poster released ahead of Machete Kills’ October 11th release date. Danny Trejo returns, as does director Robert Rodriguez, and the movie looks to be just as exploitation-y as the original Machete. (Source: Comic Book Movie)
An almost unrecognizable Idris Elba (Pacific Rim) graced the latest poster for Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. Justin Chadwick is directing the Nelson Mandela biographical film that also stars Naomie Harris (Skyfall). It’s still crazy how different Elba looks…he definitely isn’t Stringer Bell anymore! The movie officially releases November 29th. (Source: Yahoo)
About the opposite of Long Walk to Freedom is the animated comedy Free Birds. It’s an interesting choice they went with a sexual innuendo for their poster…but it’s all in good fun, right? Free Birds voice stars Woody Harrelson and Owen Wilson (Wedding Crashers) and follows two turkeys trying to time travel back to the original Thanksgiving to stop the turkey tradition (what an alliteration!). Jimmy Hayward’s (Jonah Hex) movie releases in theaters starting November 1st. (Source: Comingsoon)
Fredrik Bond’s action rom-com (which you don’t see often) Charlie Countryman released a Shia LaBeouf-centric poster. The movie fills out its cast impressively with Aubrey Plaza (NBC’s Parks and Recreation), Evan Rachel Wood (Across the Universe), Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale), and Melissa Leo (The Fighter). We can see it here in the U.S. starting November 15th. (Source: IGN)
