Sibling Pairs I’d Love to See
Remember the movie Stuck on You about a pair of conjoined twins played by Greg Kinnear and Matt Damon? How about Hanging Up, that featured Diane Keaton, Lisa Kudrow, and Meg Ryan as sisters? How about Brothers, where Jake Gyllenhaal and Tobey Maguire played a pair of, well, brothers?
When it comes to storytelling, siblings are pretty much a guarantee in film. Some casting choices for siblings are spot on, while other pairs of siblings look like they were adopted (Stepbrothers with Will Farrell and John C. Reilly is my case in point, except that they’re not supposed to look like each other anyway). But no matter the reason, be it chemistry or otherwise, it can be hard to pick two actors that can balance each other and still look close enough to be siblings. That having been said, these are some of the sibling pairs that I would love to see.
Way back in the day, I was introduced to Shakespeare’s Hamlet in high school and the incredibly accurate film version with famous Brit actor Kenneth Branagh. That same year, a popular show by the name of 24 was also released, featuring the amazing Kiefer Sutherland. Now it’s one thing to think that two men are similar in appearance, but to be so different in the way they speak, well… it could cause some problems. Regardless, I think these two would make an awesome pair of brothers (whether Kenneth decides to keep the accent or not).
There was a point in time (and it was a very naive point in time, I’d like it known) where I thought these two were actually the same person. I have since learned that this is definitely not the case. Having said that, the appearance of the two is eerily similar. It would be easy to make the two sisters in a film, and it wouldn’t matter much which one was labelled as the older one.
Looking at these two, I think it would definitely be worthwhile to see these girls play sisters. It’s not just the similar looks — these two both have those killer attitudes that make them so much fun to watch on the big screen. With Mila as the older sibling, there’s no end to the number of stories that could be written on the strength of these two actors (especially with Vanessa climbing the ranks as she is).
Let me start by saying that RDJ has been one of my favourite actors for years, and that it would take a lot of acting power to keep up with him. Not only does JDM fit the bill in the acting category, but they also have similar facial features (and three names!). It doesn’t matter who plays the older sibling and who plays the younger, but one thing’s for sure: the story would have to involve these boys getting into lots of trouble, one way or another.
What do you think? What actors would you love to see as siblings?
