Clip Mania: Captain Phillips, 12 Years a Slave, and More
Happy Friday! With today comes the weekend and a bunch of new releases. However, if you’re looking forward even farther, you can check up on the newest clips for upcoming movies. Below you’ll find two clips for Captain Phillips, 12 Years a Slave, Escape Plan, and Filth. You’ll also find a fresh new clip for Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa and Nymphomaniac.
Earlier this week I’ve reported on the newest trailers, posters, photos, and news breaks.
Paul Greengrass’ (The Bourne Ultimatum) Captain Phillips is just one short week away from release. The plot focuses on a 2009 cargo ship hijacking off the coast of Somalia. Going along with the previous trailers, two new clips gave an extended look at the incoming Somalis and the crew’s (led by Tom Hanks) reactions. I’m curious to see the more action-packed parts when I see the movie starting October 11th.
Another drama – although it’s admittedly a bit heavier – based on a true story is 12 Years a Slave. Based on a biography by Solomon Northup (played here by Chiwetel Ejiofor), Steve McQueen (Shame) will be adapting the novel. It’s set to release a week after Captain Phillips on October 18th. Michael Fassbender (X-Men: First Class), Benedict Cumberbatch (Star Trek Into Darkness), and Brad Pitt also star in the movie about a freed African-American man that is sold back into the slavery. Two new clips are available above for the movie.
Two more clips for Escape Plan made their way online before it’s October 18th release as well. The action thriller stars some of our favorite action badasses – Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger – and the clips each focus on one of them. Both feature the prison warden (played by Jim Caviezel). Escape Plan is directed by Mikael Håfström (The Rite).
A funny (and unsurprisingly ridiculous) clip released for Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa. Jeff Tremaine’s (Jackass: The Movie) latest again stars Jackass alum Johnny Knoxville, but this movie tests the limits of audiences. Outside comparisons can be made to other shock-value humor films like Borat. Bad Grandpa, on the way to its October 25th release date, released an extended clip of a part in the trailer where Knoxville (who is playing an elderly man) gets catapulted through a shop window. Check it out if that sounds like your idea of funny.
Each month Lars von Trier’s (Melancholia) Nymphomaniac releases a new clip. Also each month, I must tell you the movie still doesn’t have a U.S. release date. My guess is it’ll hit sometime in early 2014, but it’s just a guess at this point. When it does make it to theaters, expect to see Shia LaBeouf (Transformers) and Charlotte Gainsbourg (Melancholia) in the story about a…well, nymphomaniac.
Filth, another movie without a U.S. release date, debuted two new clips, too. The British crime comedy most notably stars James McAvoy (X-Men: First Class) and is directed by Jon S. Baird. It’s based on Irvine Welsh’s novel of the same name, and I can’t wait to see the movie (if it ever releases). Check out the two clips above if you get a chance!
Enjoy your weekend folks!
