Poster Mania: Oldboy, The Book Thief, and More
Following yesterday’s trailers, I’ll switch it up with seven different movies that premiered new posters. The most interesting posters go to Oldboy and Nymphomaniac – both of which released a bunch of new ones – and I’ll round out the post with posters for The Book Thief, Dallas Buyers Club, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Vampire Academy, and A Madea Christmas.
Each poster and gallery is available below.
One official poster (last one in the gallery) and twenty viral posters came online for Spike Lee’s (Inside Man) Oldboy. I normally don’t attach viral posters but I loved what they were going for, so I figured I should attach them. Since the story is about a man released from prison after twenty years, there are twenty of posters highlighting what Joe Doucett (Josh Brolin) missed in those years. I’d check them out if you have time! The remake releases November 27th. (Source: Recent Movie Posters, Collider)
Brian Percival’s (ITV’s Downton Abbey) The Book Thief also released a new poster. Starring Sophie Nelisse (Monsieur Lazhar), Geoffrey Rush (The King’s Speech), Emily Watson (Gosford Park), and based on Markus Zusak’s popular novel, The Book Thief will start in theaters on November 15th. The quickly approaching Dallas Buyers Club revealed another poster. Looking like a sure-fire awards contender, the movie most notably stars Matthew McConaughey (Mud), Jared Leto (Requiem for a Dream), and Jennifer Garner (Juno). The poster doesn’t say a whole lot about the movie, so I’ll let you know it’s about an HIV-infected man that goes into selling illegal drugs to extend his life. The movie comes out November 1st. Stay tuned this week for more marketing on this movie. (Source: Collider)
Like Oldboy, Nymphomaniac released a lot of posters. Fifteen to be exact. They definitely get the award for most risque as they show all the actors giving us their O-faces. These actors include (but aren’t limited to) Shia LaBeouf (Transformers), Charlotte Gainsbourg (Melancholia), Christian Slater (Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves), Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man), and Stellan Skargard (The Avengers). Lars von Trier (Melancholia) is definitely a controversial director, making this material seem right up his alley. The movie still doesn’t have a U.S. release date, but it’ll hit Denmark theaters Christmas day.
Sometimes I lose track of my favorite directors and what they’re up to. Wes Anderson (Moonrise Kingdom) has made some awesome films in his career, and I’m happy to see his newest project on the horizon. The Grand Budapest Hotel will star Ralph Fiennes (Skyfall), Saoirse Ronan (The Host), Jude Law (Sherlock Holmes), Owen Wilson (Midnight in Paris), and Moonrise Kingdom alums Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Jason Schwartzman and Tilda Swinton. One of the biggest revelations of the poster is the 2014 intended release date. A specific date isn’t known yet, but we now know it won’t make an awards show push this year. (Source: IMDB)
A poster for Vampire Academy – a film adaptation of Richelle Mead’s 2007 bestseller of the same name – released even though the movie doesn’t come out until February 14, 2014. It’ll star Zoey Deutch (Beautiful Creatures) and Lucy Fry (TeenNick’s Lightning Point). The movie is directed by Mark Waters (The Spiderwick Chronicles). (Source: Collider)
In case you were chomping at the bit for another Tyler Perry movie, I’ve attached a double poster for A Madea Christmas. Perry is certainly a busy guy with this being his 17th film (although I’ve seen exactly zero of them). His Christmas movie will release starting December 13th and stars (of all people) him, Larry the Cable Guy, and Chad Michael Murray (CW’s One Tree Hill).
Thanks for stopping by. Tomorrow I will be bringing you the newest photos so check back then!
