Photo Mania: Oldboy, August: Osage County, and More
Flashy is overrated. The rest of the year has a few flashier films like The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Thor: The Dark World, and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, and while I’m excited for those movies in their own ways, I’ve grown more and more excited for some of the less flashy movies. Oldboy, August: Osage County, and Dallas Buyers Club are three examples of those movies. These three, plus I, Frankenstein, Magic in the Moonlight, Hector and the Search for Happiness, and Unbroken are featured in this week’s Photo Mania.
Three more images came out for Spike Lee’s (Inside Man) Oldboy remake. The film stars Josh Brolin (Men in Black III) and Samuel L. Jackson (both of which are featured in the photos). Sharlto Copley’s (Elysium) character is also shown. The movie hits theaters November 27th. Make sure to check out the posters I submitted yesterday! (Source: IndieWire)
John Wells’ August: Osage County also has quite the cast. It includes Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Ewan McGregor, and Benedict Cumberbatch (seriously, is he in everything?). The dark comedy, based on the popular play, is available starting December 25th. Check out three new photos above. (Source: Yahoo)
A gallery of six photos are for your viewing pleasure below regarding Dallas Buyers Club. The based-on-a-true-story HIV-drama film stars Matthew McConaughey, Jared Leto (Requiem for a Dream), and Jennifer Garner (Juno). It’s directed by Jean-Marc Vallee (The Young Victoria). It also released a poster yesterday so click over there and check the gallery below for the photos. (Source: Collider)
Social media is to thank for the latest picture regarding I, Frankenstein. Unlike the other movies mentioned so far, this movie doesn’t come out until next year. It stars Aaron Eckhart (The Dark Knight) and Yvonne Strahovski (Showtime’s Dexter) most notably. Stuart Beattie (G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra) directs the film and we can see it January 24, 2014. Woody Allen is fresh off another great movie (Blue Jasmine), but that doesn’t stop him from continuing his filmmaking duties. His next movie will be called Magic in the Moonlight. Two pictures surfaced (above), but plot details are still under wraps. It’ll star Colin Firth (The King’s Speech), Emma Stone, and Jacki Weaver (The Fighter). (Source: USA Today)
Simon Pegg (The World’s End) took to social media to show off the first image from Hector and the Search for Happiness. It’s another movie based on a book (this one by Francois Lelord) and it also stars Christopher Plummer (Beginners). Peter Chelsom (Serendipity) is directing the release date-less 2014 movie. Although it’s not exactly a movie photo, I was touched by a picture I saw involving Angelina Jolie and Louis Zamperini – the Olympic athlete that was a former P.O.W. during W.W.II. Jolie will direct the picture about him, titled Unbroken, and it’s set to star Jack O’Connell (Harry Brown) and Garrett Hedlund (On the Road). It’s also interesting the Coen Brothers (True Grit) are credited as the writers. The movie should release December 25…of 2014. (Source: THR)
