Poster Mania: The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, Grudge Match, and More
Posters are sometimes the last things to come around. Trailers get the buzz, while photos sometimes get the same. Posters, however, remind us that a movie is just around the corner when they start popping up in movie theaters. With an increasing shift to the digital age, these posters sometimes pop up online first. Below you’ll find another banner for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. I’ll also attach character posters for Grudge Match, as well as singular posters for August: Osage County, Delivery Man, The Double, and Labor Day. Lastly, I found the first look at The Raid’s sequel, titled Berandal (sometimes referred to as The Raid 2 or The Raid: Berandal).
As for yesterday, check out the latest trailers (which include a whole different crop of films).
I’ve been attaching a lot of banners for Peter Jackson’s next Hobbit movie The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug lately. Releasing on December 13th, the latest Middle Earth movie returns Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, and Cate Blanchett. They (and many others) can be seen above in the latest banner. (Source: Collider)
Three posters – one normal and two character – released ahead of Grudge Match. It stars Sylvester Stallone and Robert De Niro as aging boxers that are trying to rekindle their rivalry while trying to prove they’re still relevant. It also stars Alan Arkin (Argo) and credits Peter Segal (Get Smart) as the director. The character posters are stylized much like older boxing posters (very relevant) and show off the two main characters. Grudge Match releases on December 25th alongside a whole lot of other new releases. (Source: First Showing)
August: Osage County released some photos last week with the newest posters. I’m particularly excited for this movie because of its roots (a popular play) and ensemble cast (which includes Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Ewan McGregor, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Sam Shepard). The newest poster is pretty funny looking, too. The drama is directed by John Wells (The Company Men) and also releases December 25th. (Source: Yahoo)
A confused Vince Vaughn graces the latest poster for Delivery Man. Why is he confused? Maybe because he’s the father of 533 children…which he didn’t know about until recently. That’s the premise for Ken Scott’s (Starbuck) comedy. It’s based on Starbuck, which I personally loved, but I think it’s a little too soon. We’ll find out November 22nd when it releases against this other movie you may have heard about…The Hunger Games.
One of the biggest surprises of last year was The Raid: Redemption. The martial arts/action movie was 99% action, 1% story, but the fight scenes were incredible. It immediately spawned an English-language remake (in the works). However, it also set the stage for a sequel titled Berandal, The Raid: Berandal, or The Raid 2 (depending on the day). Whatever the title is, it’s in production now with an unknown release date. Gareth Evans returns to direct the sequel and it’ll return Iko Uwais and add Julie Estelle (Macabre). (Source: Comingsoon)
Two new posters for The Double also surfaced. English comedian Richard Ayoade (Submarine) returns to the directing chair as he teams up with Jesse Eisbenberg (The Social Network) and Mia Wasikowska (Stoker). The movie premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival where it was picked by Magnolia to release in 2014. A firm date hasn’t been set quite yet. (Source: Empire)
Finally, Jason Reitman’s (Juno) Labor Day added another poster. It stars Kate Winslet (Titanic) and Josh Brolin (No County For Old Men), who play a mother and escaped convict that develop a relationship. The drama will also open on December 25th with a January 31, 2014 expansion date. (Source: Collider)
