Clip Mania: Last Vegas, The Counselor, and More
Continuing with the trend of last week, I’ve compiled a list of clips with the emphasis being on quantity. With the exception of The Counselor and Necessary Evil: Super-Villains of DC Comics, each film (Last Vegas, Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa, Free Birds, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, and Justin Bieber’s concert pic Smile) has three or more videos.
Check them all out below!
Four clips for Jon Turteltaub’s (National Treasure) Last Vegas surfaced a week before its release. Set to open against Ender’s Game, Last Vegas has been described as an AARP Hangover movie. Taking place in Vegas and starring four older gentlemen, the clips each highlight one of the main characters. It stars Michael Douglas, Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman, and Kevin Kline as a group of friends living up Sin City one last time.
One last clip surfaced for The Counselor, which opened today. With a cast that includes Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem, Cameron Diaz, and Penelope Cruz, the crime drama is crafted from a script by ‘No Country For Old Men’ author Cormac McCarthy. If all that isn’t enough, Ridley Scott (Prometheus) directed the movie. Still not convinced? Check out the last clip!
Also releasing today is Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa. I’ve continually described this as Jackass mixed with a little Borat. That could be a bad thing…or it could be a good thing. Either way, the movie is out now and stars Johnny Knoxville as an “elderly grandpa.” The three above clips show a more extended look at some of the gags in the trailers. Jeff Tremaine, an longtime Jackass collaborator, again takes the directing reigns for the movie.
Shifting gears, Free Birds – an animated family comedy – also put three clips online. Voice starring Owen Wilson and Woody Harrelson, the movie will tell the tale of two turkeys trying to save turkeys from becoming a Thanksgiving tradition (look at that alliteration!). It is directed by Jimmy Hayward (Jonah Hex) and also releases on November 1st (like the aforementioned Ender’s Game and Last Vegas).
Continuing the trend of three clips, go ahead and take a look at Idris Elba (Pacific Rim) as Nelson Mandela. I’m no Oscar voter, but I can smell some buzz already (can you smell buzz?) for him in Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. Anyway, Naomie Harris (Skyfall) also stars in the movie (as Winnie Mandela) that’s directed by Justin Chadwick (The Other Boleyn Girl) and set to release November 29th.
I joked about appealing to my 12-year-old girl demographic last time I mentioned Justin Bieber’s next concert pic Smile. I guess I’ll just continue to appeal to them with three (yes, three again) clips to his December 25th-releasing movie. Jon Chu returns from Never Say Never to direct this concert documentary that will probably make too much money for its own good.
I also wanted to plug the documentary Necessary Evil: Super-Villains of DC Comics because it sounds like a fun project. It features some Joker, some Lex Luthor, and more in an in-depth character study of DC’s best super-villains. For those interested, the movie that is directed by Scott Devine and J.M. Kenny released on DVD today.
Have a great weekend!
