Poster Mania: The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, and More
Usually I am hard on posters because it’s tougher to find a selection of new posters each week. However, this week was definitely an exception! All seven movies featured – a list that includes The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, Divergent, American Hustle, Grudge Match, and I, Frankenstein – are recognizable movies. It’s worth noting that both The Hobbit and Anchorman 2 have character posters that show off the most recognizable cast members.
If you missed the latest trailers, head on over to yesterday’s post to see those!
Each day in November brings us one day closer to The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. I’m no expert, but I would guess Catching Fire will take the 2013 Box Office crown. Based on Suzanne Collins’ second novel (titled ‘Catching Fire’), the movie adaptation is directed by Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend) and returns Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth. The above poster is an IMAX poster to again remind you it’ll be presented in that format starting November 22nd. Check out the latest trailer and all our coverage of Catching Fire here. Eight total posters became available for another novel-turned-movie. Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug may be a little overlooked because of Catching Fire, but the latest Hobbit movie will make waves when it releases on December 13th. As you can see below, a number of Lord of the Rings characters (Orlando Bloom, Ian McKellen, and more) are back at it in the latest character posters. (Sources: Twitter, Moviefone)
The third sequel in this week’s Poster Mania – Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues – also released some new stuff. The four posters (all visible below) show the returning four members of the famed “News Team” towering over New York City. Besides Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, and David Koechner, Kristen Wiig and Harrison Ford have joined Adam McKay’s long-awaited sequel. It’ll release starting December 20th. Starting yesterday, Divergent’s Facebook page started releasing character posters for next year’s adaptation. The movie, based on Veronica Roth’s novel of the same name, stars Shailene Woodley (The Descendants), Theo James (CBS’s Golden Boy), and more. Set to release March 21, 2014, it is one of the most anticipated movies of the first quarter. Check the link after the post to keep up on Divergent (directed by Neil Burger) as more posters come online…or wait until next week’s Poster Round-Up. (Source: Facebook)
David O. Russell’s (Silver Linings Playbook) American Hustle also showed off a new poster. It’s nothing special, though, and looks similar to previous ones I’ve seen. However, I’ll never pass up the opportunity to report on a movie I’m excited for, making it a shoo-in for this week’s post. As you can see from above, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Christian Bale, Amy Adams, and Jeremy Renner makeup the awesome cast for the drama that’ll release December 13th and 18th (wide). Grudge Match is just another one of the movies set to hit theaters Christmas Day. Directed by Peter Segal (The Longest Yard) and starring Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone, Grudge Match flexed its muscles with a new poster. You can see the poster above. (Source: Collider)
Finally, I’ve attached the latest poster for I, Frankenstein. Aaron Eckhart stars as Frankenstein with Yvonne Strahovski (NBC’s Chuck) also appearing in the movie. Stuart Beattie’s (Australia) movie will land in theaters January 24, 2014.
Are you excited for these upcoming movies? Because I sure as heck am!
