Trailer Round-Up: RoboCop, Oldboy, Lone Survivor, and More
Happy Veteran’s Day! Today’s rendition of Trailer Round-Up has one military movie in Lone Survivor. I also have attached the latest trailers for RoboCop, Oldboy, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (extended trailer), Winter’s Tale, Ride Along, and Berandal (The Raid sequel).
Enjoy them all below!
Next year’s RoboCop was probably the biggest release to show off a brand new trailer. It starts with star Samuel L. Jackson and later shows the actual RoboCop (played by Joel Kinnaman). Jose Padilha (Bus 174) directs the action remake that is set to release February 14, 2014 because nothing says Valentine’s Day like RoboCop.
Speaking of remakes, the latest trailer for Oldboy came out, too. This version is directed by Spike Lee (Inside Man) with Josh Brolin, Elizabeth Olsen (Martha Marcy May Marlene), and Sharlto Copley (Elysium) starring. The thriller finally releases after being delayed and we can see it beginning on November 27th.
A second trailer released for Lone Survivor. Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights) has put together an impressive band of brothers in Mark Wahlberg, Taylor Kitsch (Friday Night Lights), Eric Bana (Black Hawk Down), Emile Hirsch (Savages), and Ben Foster (3:10 to Yuma). The newest trailer promotes the film before its limited release on December 27. It goes wide on January 10, 2014.
The latest trailer for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug isn’t really anything new; however, it is an extended cut of some of the previous trailers we’ve seen. I wouldn’t expect a different one before Peter Jackson’s next Middle Earth movie (which again stars Martin Freeman, Cate Blanchett, and more) comes out on December 13th. I’m hoping this version is a little better than the first, but the 170 minute runtime doesn’t leave me very hopeful that it is any more condensed.
Next year’s Winter’s Tale – a movie that stars Colin Farrell, Russell Crowe, and Will Smith – debuted a trailer ahead of their February 14, 2014 release date. The supernatural thriller definitely looks interesting, but interesting isn’t always good. Esteemed screenwriter Akiva Goldsman directed the film based on Mark Helprin’s novel.
Tim Story’s (Think Like a Man) Ride Along has been in the news lately with new photos, and now they can add a trailer to the mix. It stars funnymen Ice Cube and Kevin Hart and the action-comedy should release on January 17th.
The Raid 2, The Raid: Berandal, or, simply Berandal, released the first official teaser. This movie is the one I am most excited for. The Raid, which released last year in the U.S., was one of the best straight-up action movies I’ve seen in quite some time. The sequel, which is also directed by Gareth Evans, has me hoping for more! Iko Uwais returns to the movie and it should hit theaters sometime in March 2014.

Oldboy was shot by cinematographer Sean Bobbitt. That puts it ahead of the rest!
