Poster Mania: Divergent, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, and More
Welcome back from the long weekend. While it is sad we’re all going back to work, at least there are only four days left, right? Since it is Tuesday, below you’ll find the newest posters for upcoming releases (both in 2013 and 2014). Specifically, there are character posters for Divergent, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, and The Railway Man. There are also more traditional posters for RoboCop, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, Delivery Man, and Ride Along.
Enjoy them all below and make sure to click the full galleries when applicable!
Last Tuesday, I mentioned that Divergent would be releasing character posters throughout the week on their Facebook. I’ve collected the latest six posters for you below. The film adaptation of the novel (of the same name) is directed by Neil Burger (Limitless), stars Shailene Woodley (The Descendants) and Theo James (CBS’s Golden Boy), and releases March 21, 2014.
If for some reason you were completely unaware of the characters in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, they’ve released five character posters. Most notably starring Martin Freeman and Orlando Bloom, the posters would be the perfect additions to my bare walls. However, I don’t have them, and I’ve instead attached them below. The Desolation of Smaug makes it to theaters on December 13th. (Source: First Showing)
Since RoboCop has been releasing photos and a trailer, I think they figured “why stop?” A new poster surfaced and can be seen above. Although the poster only shows the actual RoboCop (played by Joel Kinnaman), the movie also stars Gary Goldman, Michael Keaton, and Samuel L. Jackson. It’ll release wide on February 14, 2014. Another poster came out for next year’s Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. The movie starring Chris Pine (Star Trek Into Darkness) was initially set to release on Christmas, but it has been pushed back to January 17, 2014. Thor director Kenneth Branagh is the helmer. (Source: Yahoo)
Coming back to this year, a new poster for Delivery Man found its way online, too. I’m pretty skeptical about the movie, but the original (Starbuck) was pretty dang funny. It stars Vince Vaughn, Chris Pratt (NBC’s Parks and Recreation), and Cobie Smulders (The Avengers) when it releases next weekend (November 22nd). The good news? Ken Scott will be remaking his own French-Canadian film. (Source: IMP Awards)
Just like RoboCop, Ride Along has been in the news quite a bit lately. The sorta-buddy cop comedy (which comes out January 17th) stars Ice Cube and Kevin Hart. Ride Along, directed by Tim Story (Think Like a Man), tells the story of a security officer (Hart) trying to win over his future brother-in-law (Ice Cube). I bet I already know how it ends…(Source: Collider)
The final set of posters goes to The Railway Man. All five character posters are below and feature names like Colin Firth, Nicole Kidman (Rabbit Hole), Stellan Skarsgard (Thor), Jeremy Irvine (Great Expectations), and Hiroyuki Sanada (The Last Samurai). The period war drama still doesn’t have a U.S. release date, but I bet that’ll come next year sometime. Directed by Jonathan Teplitzky, the movie is about a former P.O.W. (played by Firth) who goes back to confront one of his captors. (Source: Empire)
