Clip Mania: The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Oldboy, Out of the Furnace, and More
I like putting together the latest clips in Clip Mania posts because it changes a lot from week to week, but this week is essentially an extension of last week. Since The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Oldboy, Out of the Furnace, Homefront, and Nebraska are all featured again this week, it does kind of feel like deja vu. However, I do have a clip for Philomena and Gimme Shelter.
Unfortunately, all of the clips are singular this week…but you can still see them all below!
Since The Hunger Games: Catching Fire finally releases on November 22nd, another clip came online this week. It’s a good introduction to a few of the newest tributes training for the Quarter Quell. Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth are among the returners when Francis Lawrence’s (I Am Legend) film dominates the box office. Check out the short clip above.
Oldboy releases five days after Catching Fire on November 27th, making it also appropriate for a new clip. Spike Lee (Inside Man) is credited as director with Josh Brolin, Elizabeth Olsen (Martha Marcy May Marlene), and Samuel L. Jackson making up part of the cast. It’s technically a remake with the original having quite the track record. Watch the clip for the thriller above!
Woody Harrelson, who also has a connection to Catching Fire, is in Scott Cooper’s (Crazy Heart) Out of the Furnace. The clip features the other two big stars (Casey Affleck and Christian Bale) and not Harrelson, but it’s still worth checking out. Like Oldboy, it’ll land in theaters November 27th with a wide expansion set for December 6th.
November 27th will also see Homefront grace theaters near you. The action-thriller about a DEA agent (Jason Statham) fighting drug traffickers is directed by Gary Fleder (The Express) and adapted from Chuck Logan’s novel. Besides Statham, the movie features names like James Franco, Winona Ryder (Black Swan), and Kate Bosworth (Superman Returns). I don’t have a huge urge to see it, but maybe you’re different.
Like most Clip Mania posts, I have featured a movie releasing today. Alexander Payne’s Nebraska may only open in limited release, but most things I’ve seen have been very positive towards this comedy-drama. It stars Bruce Dern (Coming Home) and Will Forte (NBC’s Saturday Night Live) and is about an elderly man (Dern) looking to collect on a million dollar prize in Nebraska.
Philomena, another November 27th and limited release, also submitted a clip. The drama most notably stars Judi Dench (Skyfall) and Steve Coogan (The Trip), who are both seen in the clip. Stephen Frears (High Fidelity) directed the movie.
To finish things off, I have included the lone clip for a movie releasing next year. Gimme Shelter, which I don’t believe is connected to the famous song, showed off its first clip. The movie stars Vanessa Hudgens (Spring Breakers) and Rosario Dawson (Trance) and should release in limited theaters starting January 24, 2014.
Have a great weekend!
