News Round-Up: Dwayne Johnson in ‘Not Without Hope’; ‘Mission: Impossible 5’ & ‘Dumb & Dumber To’ Release Dates; and More
Another week, another well-rounded News Round-Up. It’s not the most robust in terms of “Breaking News” stories, but I will have new casting, release dates, and an updated report on a new Will Smith project. For casting, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was added to Not Without Hope while Steve Buscemi and Dustin Hoffman joined The Cobbler. Sequels such as Mission: Impossible 5, Dumb & Dumber To, and Insidious: Chapter 3 all have updated (or new) release dates. Also, non-sequels like Fifty Shades of Grey, Sex Tape, and Beware the Night all passed down release date news. Lastly, Shawn Levy was added to direct the The City that Sailed, which was on the brink of extinction leading up to this week.
Check out all the details below. If you want, you can head over to this week’s trailers, posters, and photos as well.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has been added to yet another project. Between the Fast & Furious movies and his busy schedule, I’m a bit surprised. “The Rock” will play an ex-football player stranded at sea with a couple others in the true story tale. The movie is titled Not Without Hope, but other details (director, release date) are not known yet. (Source: Variety)
Tom McCarthy’s (The Station Agent) comedy The Cobbler has added two big names. Steve Buscemi (HBO’s Boardwalk Empire) and Dustin Hoffman will lend themselves to the story that also stars Adam Sandler. Plot and release date announcements to come later on. (Source: Collider)
Mission: Impossible 5 will officially release during the greatest year in movie history. The latest Tom Cruise spy movie will play on December 25, 2015. For those that didn’t know, Christopher McQuarrie (Jack Reacher) will direct Cruise and others. (Source: THR)
From one sequel to the next, Dumb & Dumber To, which was endanger of never coming to fruition, has a set release date of November 14, 2014 now. It’ll return the big guns in Jim Carrey, Jeff Daniels, the Farrelly Brothers (the directors). The even bigger star could be Jennifer Lawrence, who is set to make a cameo. Fifty Shades of Grey, which has had a tumultuous run from book adaptation to the big screen, has now been pushed back. It’ll star Dakota Johnson (The Social Network) and Jamie Dornan (ABC’s Once Upon a Time) with Sam Taylor-Wood (Nowhere Boy) serving as director. Now, we’ll (or maybe I should say “you’ll” because I’m not in a hurry to see the movie) see the movie on February 14, 2015. Nothing says date night like Fifty Shades of Grey! (Source: THR)
Insidious: Chapter 3 is the third sequel to release in 2015 with it debuting April 3, 2015. The second sequel will probably not return James Wan, so we’re still piecing together what the next movie will look like. However, with lots of time between now and then, expect a lot of updates. For the quick hitters, the Jason Segel (The Five-Year Engagement) and Cameron Diaz (The Counselor)-starring comedy Sex Tape (directed by Walk Hard’s Jake Kasdan) will now take Fifty Shades of Grey’s previous release date on August 1, 2014. Also, Beware the Night – a horror film, not a comedy – will release on July 2, 2014, giving it one week to succeed before The Amazing Spider-Man 2. (Source: Collider)
The final bit of news belongs to the rumored dead, but now back alive, The City that Sailed. It’ll still star Will Smith, but now Steve Levy (Reel Steel) will be directing the movie. The movie will apparently be about a father and daughter on Manhattan as it breaks away from the ocean. This is just another indication that we’re out of ideas in Hollywood. (Source: IndieWire)
