Trailer Round-Up: Godzilla, Interstellar, and More
Happy Monday! After a big weekend in movies, a few big trailers landed. Ahead of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, there were debut trailers for Godzilla, Interstellar, and Jupiter Ascending. I also found new trailers for Edge of Tomorrow, Rio 2, Bad Words, and Life of a King.
Like always, follow the post for all the details!
Not one, but two trailers came out for Gareth Edwards’ (Monsters) Godzilla remake. The first one is the U.S. version, which I found to be very exciting. They mask Godzilla (the monster) quite a bit, but there are still some great glimpses. The international trailer, on the other hand, is much shorter (by almost a minute). Either way, Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Nowhere Boy), Brian Cranston (AMC’s Breaking Bad), and Elizabeth Olsen (Oldboy) are among the stars. It hits U.S. theaters on May 16, 2014.
Not surprisingly, my favorite trailer was for the newest Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight Rises) film. Titled Interstellar, the teaser is the epitome of a teaser, since it makes use of stock footage and just a small glimpse of star Matthew McConaughey. However, there is plenty of McConaughey’s voice and it seems Nolan’s next movie will fall more in the Inception/Memento category than the Batman one. Both of these types of films work, in my opinion, and I’m practically counting down the days until when it releases on November 7, 2014.
The first official trailer for Edge of Tomorrow also released. Although it was probably overshadowed by some of the others, audiences obviously love Tom Cruise and should probably check out yet another blockbuster he’s involved in. The sci-fi film also stars Emily Blunt (Looper) and is directed by Doug Liman (Mr. and Mrs. Smith). It’ll hit theaters June 6, 2014.
Even more lost in the shuffle was the third trailer for Rio 2. I haven’t seen the original Rio movie, but I do know it was well-received by audiences. Plenty of the original cast (including Jesse Eisenberg and Anne Hathaway) is back for a second helping. Director Carlos Saldanha is also returning, and the movie is set to release on April 11, 2014.
Going from animated family movie to raunchy comedy, the first red-band trailer for Jason Bateman’s (Netflix’s Arrested Development) Bad Words released, too. This marks Bateman’s directorial debut, and I’m really excited for this movie as well. Allison Janney (The Help) and Rachael Harris (Natural Selection) also appear in the movie, which will release in limited theaters March 21, 2014.
An interesting teaser also landed online for Jupiter Ascending. To be honest, I’d never heard of this movie before I caught the trailer in theaters. However, now I know it stars Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis. More importantly, perhaps, is that the Wachowskis (The Matrix) wrote and directed the film. It won’t release until July 18, 2014, so expect much more on this film in the coming months.
A trailer for Life of a King is the last trailer I wanted to show. The drama stars Cuba Gooding, Jr. and Dennis Haysbert (FOX’s 24). It’s directed by Jake Goldberger with a release date set for January 17, 2014. Check out the trailer above!
Have a great Monday. Check back tomorrow for the newest posters!
