Movies in Theaters This Wednesday December 25, 2013: The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, The Wolf of Wall Street, and More
Merry Christmas folks! Not only is this a great time to come together with family and exchange love and gifts, but it’s also a great time for people to spend time together at the local movie theater! I never quite understood why Christmas was a big movie day until a few years ago. Now, I spend every Christmas afternoon/night at the theater.
This year has another great lineup of films and since I’m trying to cram in the final movies before the new year, it gives me another reason to go. But, which movie should I see? That is the million dollar question (well, maybe the ten dollar question).
It’s pretty much a two movie race between The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and The Wolf of Wall Street. Both movies, although much different, have a certain buzz behind them. Walter Mitty is directed (and stars) Ben Stiller as a down-and-out nobody that tries to spruce up his life with adventure. From the outside, it looks a bit like Life of Pi (a movie I absolutely loved from last year). The Wolf of Wall Street, on the other hand, continually pops up on end-of-the-year “best of” lists. That alone wouldn’t necessarily force me to see it, but with Leonardo DiCaprio starring and Martin Scorsese (Hugo) directing, I’m leaning towards this movie.
It’ll be a game-time decision it looks like.
Other wide release movies releasing today are Grudge Match – the boxing pic starring Sylvester Stallone and Robert De Niro – and 47 Ronin – a fantasy film starring Keanu Reeves.
Oh yeah, and Justin Bieber’s Believe. How on Earth could I forget that?
In limited theaters, The Invisible Woman and Lone Survivor debut. Lone Survivor is the bigger of the two movies because it’s directed by Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights) and stars Mark Wahlberg, Emile Hirsch, and more. It’ll expand nationwide on January 10th if you can wait that long.
It’s also worth noting that the acclaimed August: Osage County releases in limited theaters December 27th with a wide expansion coming later on, too.
Have a great Christmas and rest of the holidays!

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
Ben Stiller directs and stars in THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY, James Thurber’s classic story of a daydreamer who escapes his anonymous life by disappearing into a world of fantasies filled with heroism, romance and action. When his job along with that of his co-worker (Kristen Wiig) are threatened, Walter takes action in the real world embarking on a global journey that turns into an adventure more extraordinary than anything he could have ever imagined.
Revered filmmaker; Martin Scorsese directs the story of New York stockbroker Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio). From the American dream to corporate greed, Belfort goes from penny stocks and righteousness to IPOs and a life of corruption in the late 80s. Excess success and affluence in his early twenties as founder of the brokerage firm Stratton Oakmont warranted Belfort the title – “The Wolf of Wall Street.”
Money. Power. Women. Drugs. Temptations were for the taking and the threat of authority was irrelevant. For Jordan and his wolf pack, modesty was quickly deemed overrated and more was never enough.
