Trailer Round-Up: Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, The Expendables 3, and More
After a brief hiatus, I’m back with the newest trailers. Due to the holidays, we took a little break, but that doesn’t mean I stopped paying attention to the latest and greatest trailer releases. Although I had to make major cuts, I’ve included as many trailers as I could, including the premiere trailer for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and the first teaser for The Expendables 3. I’ve also included two versions of the 22 Jump Street trailers and three different ones for Transcendence. Also, check out new trailers for How to Train Your Dragon 2, Veronica Mars, and Berandal.
Like always, scroll for the videos and more information.
For those, like me, who are excited for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, make sure you check out the first trailer above. As far as blockbusters go, Planet of the Apes is right up there on the list this year. Starring Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight Rises), Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty), and Keri Russell (Mission: Impossible III), the movie will follow Caesar (Andy Serkis) eight years after 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes. It’s directed by Matt Reeves (Cloverfield) and should hit theaters July 11th.
Although it was just a teaser, you can see the first trailer for this year’s The Expendables 3. The action juggernaut stars the likes of Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham, Mel Gibson, Harrison Ford, and Wesley Snipes (among others), so it definitely has the cast going for it. Patrick Hughes’ movie won’t come out until August 15th, though.
A second trailer for How to Train Your Dragon 2 continues our sequel streak. Although much different than The Expendables 3, it’s still worth noting this is another franchise film. The animated comedy voice stars Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, Craig Ferguson, and Jonah Hill. Dean DeBlois will again direct the movie and it should release on June 13th.
22 Jump Street, yet another sequel, released not one, but two trailers over the holidays. Both the green and red band trailers are available below (depending on your maturity). Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum will reprise their roles in the buddy-cop comedy by returning directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Expect to see the movie starting June 13th.
Transcendence, a film by Wally Pfister (a longtime collaborator of Christopher Nolan), was busy over the break, too. Two teasers and a full-length trailer for the upcoming sci-fi thriller can be seen above. Johnny Depp, Morgan Freeman, and Rebecca Hall (The Prestige) are among the stars. I’m very excited to see this one on April 18th.
A debut trailer for Veronica Mars also released. Although the movie will release limitedly on March 14th, I have a feeling this movie will be a hit with fans. Since the movie is funded famously through Kickstarter, the cult-like project is finally coming to fruition soon! Kristen Bell will reprise her role (which made her famous) with creator Rob Thomas directing and producing the movie. Check out the trailer above if you are a fan of the TV series.
The final trailer is for Berandal (or The Raid 2). I felt like I had to include this trailer because the first movie, which came out in 2012, was one of my favorites of that year. The action-packed (which still somehow doesn’t describe the genre) franchise seems to know exactly what they’re doing when it comes to fight scenes. Although story isn’t at the forefront, there still is a connection from the first movie to the sequel (set to release March 28th) in star Iko Uwais. For those wondering, director Gareth Evans will be back, too.
