News Round-Up: Chris Pratt Cast in ‘Jurassic World’; ‘Despicable Me 3’ Release Date; and More
As we get deeper into the week, it’s time to take a look at the latest news updates in the film world. This week’s edition will be heavy on the casting updates (with some pretty exciting names coming up), but there are a couple release date pieces, too. In short, you can find out information about Chris Pratt in Jurassic World, Harrison Ford in Age of Adaline, Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington’s confirmation in the Avatar sequels, Rebel Wilson in Night at the Museum 3, and Adam Driver in Silence. For release dates, scroll to find information on Despicable Me 3 and the Planet of the Apes sequel.

In case you hadn’t noticed lately, Chris Pratt (NBC’s Parks and Recreation) is becoming quite the commodity. It started with his big break as the lead in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy movie set to release later this year. Now it appears he’ll be leading Jurassic World with Bryce Dallas Howard (Lady in the Water) and Nick Robinson (Kings of Summer). Colin Trevorrow (Safety Not Guaranteed) will direct the fourth Jurassic Park movie that will release June 12, 2015 after filming in New Orleans. (Source: Collider)
Harrison Ford was also confirmed for a role this week and he’ll be joining Age of Adaline. The romantic drama also stars Blake Lively (Savages) and Ellen Burstyn (Requiem for a Dream). It’s unclear what Ford’s role will entail, but Lively’s character will apparently quit aging after a near-fatal accident. More to come on this one, including director and release date. Avatar fans can let out a sigh of relief because news came down confirming Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington will come back for the sequels. Both will appear in James Cameron’s Avatar 2, Avatar 3, and Avatar 4, which are tentatively set to release December 2016, December 2017, and December 2018. So bust out your long-term calendars. I mentioned earlier Chris Pratt was becoming a hot commodity, but I’d also agree Rebel Wilson is similarly sought-after (yes, in much different roles). Wilson can now add Night at the Museum to her resume as she’s been confirmed for a role in Night at the Museum 3. She’ll be directed by Shawn Levy (The Internship) and join Ben Stiller (among others). Expect the movie December 25th of this year. (Source: Deadline)
The final bit of casting news belongs to Martin Scorsese’s (The Wolf of Wall Street) Silence. Adam Driver (Lincoln) is one of my favorite up-and-comers – he is spectacular in HBO’s Girls – so I’m excited to hear he’s joining a Scorsese film. Silence still hasn’t come up with a production schedule or anything, but Andrew Garfield is one of the stars signed on. We’ll update you will a release date when it comes available. Yeah we just turned the calendar over to 2014. But no, I don’t think its necessary to get information on 2017 releases. But since I previously mentioned the Avatar sequels in 2016-2018, I guess I can also mention Despicable Me 3 will release on June 30…2017. Since it’s very early in the process, we only know that Garth Jennings (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy) will direct the animated comedy. More to come later. (Source: THR)
Lastly, after last week’s news about Matt Reeves (Cloverfield) directing Planet of the Apes 3, I’ve got news about a firm release date. The movie, which is without casting details or an official title, will come out on July 29, 2016. (Source: Comingsoon)
