Trailer Round-Up: Transcendence, The Purge: Anarchy, and More
Happy President’s Day everyone. With the day off, I’d check out the latest trailers! Those trailers, including a few teasers and debut trailers, are for Transcendence, The Purge: Anarchy, Tammy, Think Like a Man Too, Under the Skin, The Double, and Joe.
With each trailer (below), you can find more information about each film, including director, stars, and release date. Enjoy!
The second full-length trailer for Wally Pfister’s Transcendence debuted late last week. The movie stars Johnny Depp and Rebecca Hall (The Prestige) and will hit theaters April 18th. I’m excited for the movie because not only does it mark Pfister’s directorial debut, but the premise looks pretty cool. It’ll be about an artificial intelligence researcher (Depp) that gets in over his head with his project. Check out the trailer.
One of last year’s biggest financial hits (percentage-wise) was the horror(ish) film The Purge. It starred Ethan Hawke and had quite the premise, too – it was about a world that had a 24-hour window where anything and everything was legal. I still haven’t seen the movie (tisk tisk), but I’m not surprised to see plans going forward for the sequel, now officially titled The Purge: Anarchy. The sequel got fast-tracked so quickly that it already has a teaser! James DeMonaco will return as the director with new stars Zach Gilford (NBC’s Friday Night Lights) and Michael K. Williams (HBO’s The Wire). Check out the full movie on July 2nd and the trailer above.
The second teaser is for Tammy, a comedy starring Melissa McCarthy (Bridesmaids), Susan Sarandon, and Dan Aykroyd. McCarthy’s husband, and Bridesmaid co-star, Ben Falcone will be directing the movie about a woman (McCarthy) that goes on a road trip with her alcoholic grandmother (Sarandon). The movie currently shares a release date with The Purge: Anarchy on July 2nd.
Tim Story’s Think Like a Man was also a pretty big financial success (back in 2012). With financial success comes the pressure for a sequel, so I have the first trailer for Think Like a Man Too. Releasing on June 20th, the movie will show Kevin Hart, Regina Hall, and Gabrielle Union (and others) reprising their roles.
Jonathan Glazer’s (Birth) film Under the Skin comes out a little earlier than the previous films (already on April 4th), so its newest trailer seems a little more relevant. The sci-fi thriller most notably stars Scarlett Johansson. If you’re interested in the movie, watch the trailer!
Actor-director Richard Ayoade (Submarine) is coming out with his second feature film. It’ll star Jesse Eisenberg and Mia Wasikowska (Stoker), and I can tell you that its trailer is my favorite of the seven. The Double, as it is titled, is quickly becoming one of my most anticipated movies, especially since word out of the Toronto International Film Festival was positive. You (and me) will be able to see the movie starting March 7th.
The debut trailer for Joe is the final one I thought I’d attach. David Gordon Green’s (Prince Avalanche) film (based on Larry Brown’s novel) is just one of a couple upcoming projects for Green. Although the film has a relatively unknown cast, it also includes star Nicolas Cage and up-and-comer Tye Sheridan (Mud). Joe will release on April 11th.
Thanks for stopping by, and make sure to come back tomorrow for the newest posters.
