Poster Mania: Transcendence, The Purge: Anarchy, The Two Faces of January, and More
For most, today welcomes the beginning of the week. If you caught yesterday’s Trailer Round-Up, today’s featured movies are very similar (but in poster form of course). Like yesterday, movies like Transcendence, The Purge: Anarchy, Under the Skin, and Joe are highlighted. In addition, I’ve included new posters for The Two Faces of January and Brick Mansions. To finish things, I attached a fun set of LEGO-ized posters for the 9 Best Picture nominees at the upcoming Academy Awards.
Scroll to enjoy all the new posters…
Warner Brothers released another poster alongside their latest trailer for the sci-fi thriller Transcendence. It stars Johnny Depp, Morgan Freeman, and Rebecca Hall (The Prestige) with a release date of April 18th. This one is notable partly because of the cast and premise, but partially because it’s Wally Pfister’s directorial debut. He has been a long-time collaborator with (and cinematographer for) Christopher Nolan. (Source: Twitter)
Although I haven’t seen The Purge, it looks like I need to before this summer. Last year’s surprise (relatively speaking) resulted in a fast-tracked sequel. With the release of an official title, The Purge: Anarchy, and a trailer, a debut poster also surfaced. The movie will return director James DeMonaco while adding stars Zach Gilford (NBC’s Friday Night Lights) and Michael K. Williams (HBO’s Boardwalk Empire). Check out the movie this July on July 2nd. Before today, I hadn’t heard a whole lot about the upcoming film The Two Faces of January. However, I now know that Viggo Mortensen (The Lord of the Rings), Kirsten Dunst (Spider-Man), and Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis) star in the movie. I also know it is based on a 1964 psychological thriller novel. The movie version is directed by Hossein Amini (The Wings of the Dove) and currently doesn’t have a release date in the States. The Scottish sci-fi film Under the Skin also followed up their trailer release with a new poster. Under the Skin stars Scarlett Johansson and is directed by Birth’s Jonathan Glazer. It’ll tell the story of an alien being that preys on hitchhikers on April 4th. (Source: Twitter)
One of the movies that started up their marketing was the Paul Walker-led Brick Mansions. Before last week, there wasn’t a whole for this movie. Now you can check out the first poster that shows off Walker, David Belle (District 13), and Rza (G.I. Joe: Retaliation). Brick Mansions is actually the remake of the 2004 French film, District 13, and will come out April 25th. (Source: Comingsoon)
David Gordon Green’s (Pineapple Express) Joe also showed off a new poster. Like most posters, it doesn’t say a whole lot about the movie. However, it does show us stars Nicolas Cage and Tye Sheridan (Mud). The film adaptation (of Larry Brown’s 1991 novel) will hit theaters starting April 11th. (Source: IndieWire)
The last section is reserved for some pretty funny parody posters. Every year I see the LEGO versions of the top movies. This year I couldn’t resist sharing them, especially since the recently released The LEGO Movie was so awesome. Below, in the full gallery, you can find 9 LEGO-inspired posters for the 2013 Best Picture nominees. The movies featured are American Hustle, Captain Phillips, Dallas Buyers Club, Her, Gravity, Nebraska, Philomena, The Wolf of Wall Street, and 12 Years a Slave. (Source: Yahoo)
