Trailer Round-Up: Guardians of the Galaxy, 22 Jump Street, and More
Happy Monday! In today’s post, it’ll be a usual mix of the latest trailers. Like always, I’ve tried to get as much variety as possible. Looking back, the biggest release was the trailer for Marvel’s next superhero franchise, Guardians of the Galaxy. However, that wasn’t the only movie that released a debut trailer. In fact, Locke, Unbroken, The Sacrament, and In the Blood all showed off first trailers. The “returners” were 22 Jump Street, which released another green-band trailer, and The Double, which added another international trailer.
All of the trailers, as well as their directors, stars, and release dates, can be seen below.
As if there wasn’t enough hype behind James Gunn’s (Thor: The Dark World) Guardians of the Galaxy, the dial was turned up after the latest trailer. The fantastic first-look is similar to what I saw at Comic-Con but with more (obviously, since they’d only been filming for about a week up to that point) footage. The movie stars Chris Pratt (The LEGO Movie), Zoe Saldana (Avatar), Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel. It is set to come out August 1st.
Coming off the hot success (and it is well warranted, I promise) of their animated film, The LEGO Movie, Phil Lord and Chris Miller can turn their attention to their next release. 22 Jump Street – yes, the sequel to 21 Jump Street – will hit theaters June 13th already, making it seem about right that another trailer came out. Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill reprise their roles in the comedy.
The debut trailer for Locke also released online. The biggest name behind this project is Tom Hardy, who has been under-the-radar as of late. Steven Knight’s (Hummingbird) thriller stars Hardy, Tom Holland (The Impossible), and Olivia Colman (Tyrannosaur). U.S. audiences can get to the full movie on April 25th.
Richard Ayoade’s (Submarine) second feature film, The Double, did a bit of last second marketing with another trailer. Since the movie is already due out on March 7th, the film is just around the corner. All indications are this movie, which stars Jesse Eisenberg and Mia Wasikowska (Stoker), is a winner. We’ll see soon! And you can see part of the movie above.
With a showing of new photos, Angelina Jolie’s next directorial project, Unbroken, also unveiled a full-length trailer. Since the Olympics have been dominating TV sets the past two weeks, the timing makes a lot of sense. The movie, and trailer, stars Jack O’Connell (Harry Brown) and Garret Hedlund (Tron: Legacy). Check it out above before the movie comes out December 25th.
The only red-band trailer of the week belongs to the only horror film – The Sacrament. Ti West, who is known for his horror films (like The ABC’s of Death), is in charge of the film that stars Joe Swanberg (White Reindeer) and Amy Seimetz (You’re Next). Although the film has played already at the Venice Film Festival, it won’t play in theaters until May 1st.
John Stockwell’s (Dark Tide) In the Blood is the final trailer of the week. The action thriller, which is set to release on April 4th, stars Gina Carano (Haywire), Cam Gigandet (Easy A), and Danny Trejo (Machete). If it sounds interesting, check out the trailer above.
Check back in tomorrow for the latest posters.
