Trailer Round-Up: Annie, Sin City: A Dame to Kill, and More
Happy Monday! In this week’s edition of Trailer Round-Up, I’ll attach a couple exciting trailers for some upcoming movies in some considerable hype. This includes the two big debuts of the past week – Annie and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. The other five trailers are for The Boxtrolls, Frank, Deliver Us From Evil, Only Lovers Left Alive, and Afflicted.
As always, scroll to see the videos and get more information on the films.
The debut trailer for Annie – the latest adaptation of the famous musical – finally released before it hits theaters December 19th. Will Gluck (Easy A) directs Jamix Foxx, Rose Byrne (Bridesmaids), and Cameron Diaz, but as you can see (from the trailer), Quvanzhane Wallis (Beasts of the Southern Wild) will play the title character. I am very excited for that casting bit! Check out the trailer above.
On the heels of 300: Rise of an Empire’s release, it may now be appropriate to look ahead to the next graphic novel adaptation. Sin City: A Dame to Kill For unveiled its first trailer (above) before its August 22nd release. The movie will return Jessica Alba and Bruce Willis while adding a bunch of newcomers. This includes Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Josh Brolin, and Eva Green (speaking of 300: Rise of an Empire). Robert Rodgriguez (Machete) and Frank Miller (author of the comics) direct the film.
Laika’s next stop-motion animated film, The Boxtrolls, also came out with a new trailer. Graham Annable and Anthony Stacchi (Open Season) will direct the movie that is set to come out September 26th. Ben Kinglsey, Elle Fanning (Super 8), and The World’s End’s Simon Pegg and Nick Frost voice star in the movie.
You may not know a whole lot about Frank (hence why I included the trailer), but early reviews have been positive regarding the comedy. Also releasing its first trailer, the film stars Michael Fassbender and Maggie Gyllenhaal (The Dark Knight) whenever it comes out (a U.S. date hasn’t been set yet). Lenny Abrahamson (What Richard Did) directed the Sundance hit.
When I went to my screening of 300: Rise of an Empire (review here), I caught the debut trailer for Deliver Us From Evil. The eerie (and very, very creepy) trailer for the horror film doesn’t give us a lot about the movie’s premise other than that it’ll try to be as scary as possible. Eric Bana (Black Hawk Down) and Olivia Munn (Magic Mike) headline the film (that is directed by Sinister’s Scott Derrickson) and it is due out July 2nd. Good luck.
If you’re a fan of Loki, this next trailer may be the one for you to watch. This is especially true if you are a fan of Loki’s hair because Tom Hiddleston is sporting quite the do. The film, titled Only Lovers Left Alive, will star Tilda Swinton and Mia Wasikowska (Stoker) as well. It’ll apparently be about vampires (go figure) in love. The movie’ll land in theaters April 11th.
Since we don’t have enough found footage horror films (yes, sarcasm), Afflicted has decided to come out as well. The trick here, though, is this film will be presented in first person point-of-view. Derek Lee and Clif Prowse direct the movie that stars them and Baya Rehaz (Blue is the Warmest Color). If you are at all interested, I’d check out the trailer for the horror-thriller that is set to come out April 4th already.
Come back tomorrow for the latest posters.
