News Round-Up: Will Ferrell Cast in ‘Battle of the Sexes’; ‘Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2’ Release Date; ‘Sinister Six’ Director; and More
Hello everyone and welcome to this Thursday’s edition of News Round-Up. Herein, you’ll find the latest casting updates, including the addition of Will Ferrell’s name to Battle of the Sexes, Johnny Knoxville’s to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Judy Greer’s to Jurassic World. The lone release date I added was for Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2. To finish things off in the misc. department, I’ll talk about Drew Goddard’s connection to Sinister Six, some news regarding The Goonies sequel, and David Lowery’s connection to the Disney project Pete’s Dragon.
As always, scroll to find out more!
Fans of Will Ferrell will be excited to hear he is again heading to the sports arena. Having previously starred as an inept racecar driver (in Talladega Nights) and a semi-pro basketball player/manager/coach (in Semi-Pro), Ferrell will now be a tennis player! The movie, titled Battle of the Sexes, will star him as real-life tennis player Bobby Riggs. Not sure about the director or potential release dates at this point. (Source: USA Today)
Although fans are mixed (at least from what I’ve heard) about the newest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, I thought I’d still report on it. Johnny Knoxville (Bad Grandpa) will apparently be the voice of Leonardo in Jonathan Liebesman’s (Wrath of the Titans) reboot. He’ll be flanked by Tony Shalhoub’s (Men in Black) voice and Megan Fox’s…presence. The film comes out August 8th. (Source: Deadline)
You may not know Judy Greer’s name, but chances are you’ve heard about the upcoming project Jurassic World. Greer (Netflix’s Arrested Development) will join stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard (Spider-Man 3), and Jake Johnson (Safety Not Guaranteed) in Colin Trevorrow’s (speaking of Safety Not Guaranteed) dino film. This one is set for a June 12, 2015. (Source: THR)
If you were a big Paul Blart: Mall Cop fan (I think there may be one of you out there), get out your calendar! To prove we give sequels to any movie, Hollywood will be releasing Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 on April 17, 2015. I can’t wait to see Kevin James’ latest iteration (which is directed by She’s the Man director Andy Fickman). (Source: Comingsoon)
With franchises growing by the second, it appears the Spider-Man universe is about to get a whole lot bigger. It was all but confirmed until this week, but Sinister Six is happening with Drew Goddard (Cabin in the Woods) in the driver’s seat. He’ll direct and write the film that has no release date or stars yet. (Source: Variety)
With no film safe from being sequel-ized, The Goonies looks like the next movie to get the sequel treatment. Plans are very unknown, but news did come down from Richard Donner (the director) that the stars are apparently set to return for a sequel to the 1980s classic. Check back for more information. David Lowery (Ain’t Them Bodies Saints) looks to be directing the remake of Disney’s Pete’s Dragon as well. Like the others, this one is still in development, meaning we don’t know who will star in the film or when it’ll come out. Lowery will write the film, though, so that’s good news. (Source: IndieWire)
