Trailer Round-Up: How to Train Your Dragon 2, 22 Jump Street, and More
In a whirlwind week of movie trailers, below you’ll find everything from animated/family movies (How to Train Your Dragon 2, Dolphin Tale 2, and Planes: Fire & Rescue) to raunchy comedies (22 Jump Street and Neighbors). The debut trailer for Chef and Wish I Was There bridge the gap between the extremes. Also of note: the seven films utilize just four different release dates, making these competing films in some ways.
Check them all out below!
Last Thursday, the newest (and maybe last) trailer for How to Train Your Dragon 2 dropped. The animated sequel is the second in a planned trilogy and will return familiar voices like Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, Jonah Hill, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse. If you missed the first movie (like me), you have until June 13th before Dean DeBlois’ next adaptation lands in theaters.
To start the red-band trailers off, I attached the latest one (clocking in at almost three full minutes) for 22 Jump Street. The sequel, which is again directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, won’t come out until June 13th, but I’d expect this to be about the last of the fresh new material. The movie returns Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum and promises to be one of the funniest movies of the summer.
The finish off the red-band trailers, I’ve embedded both new ones for Neighbors. Nicholas Stoller’s (Forgetting Sarah Marshall) latest comedy looks to also be a pretty funny one when it comes out a little earlier on May 9th. With an impressive cast that includes Seth Rogen, Rose Byrne (Bridesmaids), and Zac Efron, I’d keep my eye on this film.
Jon Favreau (Iron-Man) is perhaps more known for his hand in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, Favreau had shown both his directing and acting chops off in the comedy department before taking on the superhero genre. He returns to his roots, in a sense, with his latest film that stars him, Scarlett Johansson, and Robert Downey, Jr. Since the movie comes out already May 9th, it was surprising we hadn’t seen a theatrical trailer for the movie yet. That changed last week, and I’ve attached the trailer for Chef above.
For those that saw and loved Dolphin Tale, the in-the-works sequel, simply titled Dolphin Tale 2, released a new trailer. The first to my knowledge, it shows off some of the stars and what the second story will consist of. Those stars include Harry Connick, Jr. (NBC’s Will & Grace), Ashley Judd (Divergent), and, of course, Morgan Freeman. Charles Martin Smith returns as director with the movie slated for a September 19th playdate.
Bobs Gannaway’s Planes: Fire & Rescue also unveiled a new trailer this week. I never did end up seeing the first Planes movie, but I may have to do that before Fire & Rescue comes out on July 18th. Dane Cook, Julie Bowen (Horrible Bosses), and Ed Harris are just a few in a growing voice cast. Check out the trailer if you’re interested.
Zach Braff’s (Garden State) next film, Wish I Was Here, made headlines when it utilized Kickstarter to fund the movie. It seems like just yesterday this was happening; however, the film has already released a teaser! Braff will star alongside Kate Hudson (Fool’s Gold) and Mandy Patinkin (Showtime’s Homeland) in the upcoming film. Look for this film starting July 18th as well.
