Trailer Round-Up: X-Men: Days of Future Past, Gone Girl, Foxcatcher, and More
Besides X-Men: Days of Future Past (although I’d love for it to crack the “blockbuster” jinx), most of this week’s trailers could be huge players for this coming year’s Academy Awards. Gone Girl, which features Oscar favorites David Fincher and Ben Affleck, and Bennett Miller’s Foxcatcher are frontrunners right now. Miller collaborated with another Oscar favorite – the late Philip Seymour Hoffman – in Capote, and Hoffman has not one, but two movies with new trailers this week (for A Most Wanted Man and God’s Pocket). Other trailers featured below are for Clint Eastwood’s Jersey Boys adaptation and the Meryl Streep-starring (who gets nominated pretty much every year) The Homesman.
So yeah, I’d get a jump on this year’s anticipated movies by checking out the latest trailers below!
Yes, we have a lot of Oscar potential in this week, but the most anticipated movie for laymoviegoers is probably X-Men: Days of Future Past. The all-star X-Men movie will basically be a mash-up of the two universes created throughout the X-Men franchise, so it’ll star Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, and many more. Bryan Singer’s latest foray into the franchise comes out May 23rd.
Chances are you’ve at least heard about David Fincher’s film adaptation Gone Girl that stars Ben Affleck. Affleck was out of the movies (but not the spotlight) most of last year, but we can expect to see a lot of him in the coming years. Fincher will try to continue his awesome filmography on October 3rd when the movie releases. Check out the debut trailer above!
Unfortunately, most of you probably don’t have Bennett Miller’s (Moneyball) next film, Foxcatcher, on your radars. The good news is you can take a gander at the interesting film above. Based on a true story, the sports drama looks like it extends the range of its stars (most notably Steve Carell and Channing Tatum). Mark Ruffalo also stars in the film that still doesn’t have a release date. Expect a late 2014 date and a strong Oscar push.
Clint Eastwood’s (Gran Torino) next directorial project, Jersey Boys, also unveiled a trailer. The musical biography, which will release earlier than most of these films on June 20th, is based on the Broadway musical and will feature the musical’s biggest star John Lloyd Young. Check out the trailer if it sounds interesting.
With a duo that includes the great Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones, how could you not be at least a little excited for The Homesman? The western drama is directed by Jones himself and will compete at Cannes before coming out sometime later this year. We’ll update you with a firm release date later. Until then, check out the trailer.
The first Philip Seymour Hoffman-starring film with a trailer is A Most Wanted Man. When this one debuted earlier this year in film festivals, the early word was very positive. Hoffman will be flanked by Rachel McAdams (The Notebook), Robin Wright (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), and Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man). Anton Corbijn (The American) will release his film in limited theaters starting July 25th.
The second Philip Seymour Hoffman-starring film with a trailer is God’s Pocket. In this one, he’ll be joined by Richard Jenkins (The Cabin in the Woods) and Christina Hendricks (AMC’s Mad Men). Mad Men’s John Slattery will direct the picture that should be in theaters already May 9th. Check out a trailer for the drama above.
