Trailer Round-Up: Transformers: Age of Extinction, Interstellar, and More
In this week’s edition of Trailer Round-Up, I’ll have some pretty exciting trailers (my favorites being for Interstellar and Edge of Tomorrow). There’s a new trailer for the upcoming blockbuster Transformers: Age of Extinction as well as the first teaser for next year’s live-action Cinderella pic. We’ve also got you covered with the latest for Lucy, Deliver Us From Evil, and The Riot Club.
Enjoy the trailers below.
The latest trailer for Transformers: Age of Extinction is above and is a typical Michael Bay trailer. I’m hoping for a Transformers movie with actual substance; however, I’m definitely not holding my breath. It is nice the movie is a reboot of sorts with a new star (Mark Wahlberg) but actors don’t make a movie. We’ll see how the whole film is when it releases June 27th.
The most exciting trailer by far was for Christopher Nolan’s (The Dark Knight) next film. The sci-fi film deals with alternate realities, wormholes, and the destruction of mankind. This premise has been explored many times through the history of cinema, but Nolan’s attachment to the project has me really excited. The first full-length trailer released with this weekend’s debut of Godzilla and is just as emotional as it is exciting. The movie stars Matthew McConaughey, Jessica Chastain, and Anne Hathaway (the latter two aren’t featured a whole lot in the first trailer). Interstellar hits theaters November 7th.
For Cinderella fans, you’ll be excited (probably as excited as I am with anything having to do with Christopher Nolan) to see the first teaser for next year’s live-action adaptation. Lily James (ITV’s Downton Abbey), Richard Madden (HBO’s Game of Thrones), and Cate Blanchett star in Kenneth Branagh’s (Thor) adaptation. The movie will hit theaters March 13, 2015.
An extended (about three-and-a-half minutes) IMAX trailer released online for Edge of Tomorrow as well. I was more lukewarm than anything on this release coming into this week; however, the newest trailer has me a bit more excited for the movie that’ll release June 6th. Starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt (Looper), Doug Liman’s (The Bourne Identity) sci-fi movie looks like it has a lot of potential. I see shades of Inception, Elysium, Oblivion, and Groundhog’s Day in the movie.
Lucy, on the other hand, is a film I can’t quite pinpoint a good comparison for. It looks part superhero, part psychological thriller, and part action-adventure. It does star names like Scarlett Johansson and Morgan Freeman, so that is exciting. Luc Besson’s (Taken 2) film releases in the U.S. August 8th. A new international trailer is above.
For horror enthusiasts, Deliver Us From Evil has also debuted a new trailer. I’ll probably never see this film, but I thought I should still attach the trailer. Scott Derrickson (The Day the Earth Stood Still) directs the pic that stars Eric Bana (Black Hawk Down), Edgar Ramirez (Carlos), and Joel McHale (NBC’s Community). Check the trailer out before the movie comes out July 2nd.
Lastly, I’ve embedded the first trailer I’ve seen for The Riot Club. Formally titled Posh, Lone Scherfig’s (One Day) film stars Max Irons (The Host) and Sam Claflin (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) among others. The movie centers around a club that makes destruction their thing, so yeah the movie’s title is pretty self-explanatory. This one doesn’t have a U.S. playdate quite yet.
