Photo Mania: Batman vs. Superman, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, and More
In this week’s edition of Photo Mania, you can expect a lot of non-original movies (go figure). The bulk of them are based on comic books, novels, and even a play. What If is the lone original film featured today with the rest being Batman vs. Superman (or whatever the title will be), The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, A Hologram for the King, The Hundred-Foot Journey, The Driftless Area, and Brooklyn.
All the photos can be seen below!
I’d consider the first picture of Ben Affleck’s Batman in the Man of Steel sequel (unofficially titled Batman vs. Superman or vice versa) to be the biggest picture release of the week. It doesn’t really tell us much, but it does give us a look at both Affleck and the iconic Batsuit. Affleck’s looks like a marriage between a more classic look and the grittier Christopher Nolan version. Zack Snyder will direct the movie that is set to come out May 6, 2016 and will apparently pit Affleck against Henry Cavill’s Superman character. (Source: Twitter)
Although Batman vs. Superman is a big deal, so is anything Hunger Games-related. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 is quietly approaching (I wouldn’t be surprised to see a teaser in the coming month), so new pictures aren’t that surprising. Sadly, the gallery below doesn’t feature Hollywood’s hottest actress Jennifer Lawrence, but it does give us our first glimpse of Julianne Moore (Children of Men). The pictures also show off Woody Harrelson, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and more. Check them out below. Francis Lawrence’s follow-up hits theaters November 21st. (Source: Collider)
Tom Tykwer’s (co-director of Cloud Atlas) A Hologram for the King unveiled its first picture. The film features Tom Hanks (shown above) and is about a washed-up salesman that travels to Saudi Arabia in an attempt to secure a contract. The comedy-drama is adapted from a novel but is still awaiting a U.S. playdate. (Source: The Film Stage)
Along with a trailer and poster, new photos also released online for The Hundred-Foot Journey. Distributed by Disney and directed by Lasse Hallstrom (Safe Haven), the drama is yet another book-to-film adaptation. The Hundred-Foot Journey will star Helen Mirren with a release date set for August 8th. (Source: Comingsoon)
What If (formally titled The F Word) also released a poster yesterday. Today a new gallery can be seen for the film that stars Daniel Radcliffe and Zoe Kazan (Ruby Sparks). This adaptation isn’t of a book, but instead will be taken from a play (by T.J. Dawe and Michael Rinaldi). Michael Dowse (Goon) directs the pic that is set to come out in limited theaters on August 1st. Check out the gallery below. (Source: Comingsoon)
I also wanted to pass along the first look at The Driftless Area. The drama, which centers around a bartender that finds himself between a mysterious lady and a potentially violent criminal, doesn’t seem like a movie that’d feature funnywoman Zooey Deschanel. However, that is the case as she’ll star alongside Anton Yelchin (Star Trek Into Darkness). Zachary Sluser’s movie should release sometime next year. (Source: Collider)
To finish things off, I’ve attached the first picture for the movie Brooklyn. This one stars Saoirse Ronan (The Host) and Domhnall Gleeson (True Grit). Brooklyn shares some of the same common themes as the others, including being based on a book and releasing sometime in 2015. The comedy-drama is directed by John Crowley (Closed Circuit).
