Clip Mania: X-Men: Days of Future Past, How to Train Your Dragon 2, and More
Come one, come all to see this week’s Clip Mania. This week touts a pretty balanced line-up that includes some blockbusters (X-Men: Days of Future Past, How to Train Your Dragon 2, A Million Ways to Die in the West, and 22 Jump Street) and some lesser-known movies (Foxcatcher, Lost River, and Whiplash).
All of the clips can be seen below. If you missed this week’s other Round-Up posts, check out the trailers, posters, photos, and news breaks.
Starting today (well, technically last night) is X-Men: Days of Future Past. The movie bridges the gap between the first three movies (starring Patrick Stewart and Hugh Jackman) and the prequels (starring Jennifer Lawrence and Michael Fassbender) in what promises to be one of the best (and most ambitious) superhero movies in quite some time. If you’d like to get a look at some of the characters, the three clips above are here to help you. Check them out!
I’ve also attached three clips for How to Train Your Dragon 2. The movie returns voice stars Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, and Jonah Hill when it comes out June 13th. Dean DeBlois also returns as the director. The animation looks on-point with the first movie and is showcased above.
I’ve still yet to catch-up with Seth MacFarlane’s Ted, but the movie seemed to do well with audiences. So well that A Million Ways to Die in the West was all but fast-tracked. Coming out on May 30th, the movie definitely looks like it’ll be entertaining. The problem with most comedies, though, is the jokes tend to be ruined in the trailers. Above are six clips that basically show the entire scenes of some of the funnier bits. As you can tell, MacFarlane himself stars alongside Charlize Theron (Monster) and Liam Neeson.
Jonah Hill, who was mentioned earlier, will have another movie come out on June 13th. 22 Jump Street (which released another clip above) will come out alongside How to Train Your Dragon 2 when it releases. Phil Lord and Chris Miller will again direct the comedy and it’ll be the sequel to the 2012 surprise hit 21 Jump Street. Take a look at the clip if you can.
Although I’m ecstatic about X-Men: Days of Future Past, I’m also practically counting down the days until Foxcatcher releases. Bennett Miller’s (Moneyball) next film will star an odd-looking Steve Carell (who is sporting a fake nose) and 22 Jump Street’s Channing Tatum. This one made its rounds at Cannes this past week but won’t hit U.S. theaters until November 14th. Check out the buzzy clip above.
Lost River also played Cannes but hasn’t had the same positive buzz surrounding it. The movie is best known as Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut. It stars Christina Hendricks (AMC’s Mad Men) and Saoirse Ronan (The Host). As of now, the film is without a release date and grumblings say the movie may be sold to an independent studio. We’ll keep you updated but, until then, check out the debut clip above.
Much like Days of Future Past and Foxcatcher, I am excited for the release of Whiplash. Not only did the film rock Sundance earlier this year, but it features one of my favorite actors – Miles Teller (The Spectacular Now). Damien Chazelle’s film about a drummer (Teller) and his over-the-top conductor (J.K. Simmons) hits theaters October 10th. Watch the debut clip for this one above as well.
Have a good long weekend!
