Trailer Round-Up: Dumb and Dumber To, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, and More
In today’s weekly edition of Trailer Round-Up, I’ve compiled the latest theatrical trailer releases. Like each week, I’ve organized from most pertinent to least pertinent (usually meaning the bigger movies go first). Today, that means movies like Dumb and Dumber To, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, The Equalizer, and Dolphin Tale 2 start us off. However, I did include some of the “smaller” (or lesser-known) movies such as The Boxtrolls, Paddington, and Birdman.
Each film and trailer is featured below!
A “true” Dumb and Dumber sequel has been along time in the making. Some (including myself) thought the film wouldn’t ever come to fruition. However, things change, hence the development of Dumb and Dumber To with returning stars (Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels) and directors (the Farrelly Brothers) coming back. The next step was a debut trailer and that finally came out this past week! Check out what Lloyd and Harry are up to above before the film comes out November 14th.
Another sequel – this one being Sin City: A Dame to Kill For – unveiled a new trailer. This one stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Jessica Alba, Bruce Willis, and more when it comes out August 22nd. A Dame to Kill For is directed by Robert Rodriguez (Machete) and Frank Miller (The Spirit).
Also, check out the latest trailer for Antoine Fuqua’s (Training Day) thriller above. Denzel Washington (go figure) headlines the cast that also includes Chloe Grace Moretz and Melissa Leo (The Fighter). The Equalizer, as it is titled, hits theaters September 26th.
Our fourth trailer today is for Dolphin Tale 2 (yet another sequel). This one again stars Ashley Judd, Morgan Freeman, and Harry Connick, Jr. (with Charles Martin Smith returning as director). Check out the family film starting September 12th!
Although I’m excited for the other movies on this list, The Boxtrolls seems like the most interesting project so far. A new trailer came out – this one actually highlighting the plot – and I am even more excited. The Boxtrolls is exciting mostly because Laika (the studio behind Coraline and ParaNorman) is creating the film (with Graham Annable and Anthony Stacchi co-directing). However, it’s also worth mentioning Ben Kingsley (Iron-Man 3), Elle Fanning (Super 8), and Simon Pegg (The World’s End) are featured as voice stars. Check out the trailer above and the film starting September 26th.
Along with last week’s pictures, a debut trailer landed online for Paddington. Based on the fictional Paddington character, the feature film is directed by Paul King (The Mighty Boosh) and comes out December 25th. Colin Firth (The King’s Speech) and Nicole Kidman are two of the bigger voice actors in the film. Check out the first of what will probably be many trailers for this film.
Although I spelled out my excitement for The Boxtrolls, none of the films touch my excitement level for Birdman. Like most movies I get excited for, it comes down to the director. In this case, Birdman is directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (who directed one of my favorite movies, Amores Perros). The film looks a little less bleak when compared to Inarritu’s filmography so I’m excited to see the departure as well. Birdman, whose first trailer is above, stars Michael Keaton, Emma Stone, Edward Norton, and even Zach Galifianakis. Check this film out October 17th.
