Trailer Round-Up: Nightcrawler, White Bird in a Blizzard, and More
Every once in a while it’ll happen where the crop of new trailers just doesn’t seem that good on paper. However, you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, right? While this week includes a lot of movies you may not know a lot about (the list includes Nightcrawler, White Bird in a Blizzard, Annabelle, The Woman in Black: Angels of Death, Open Windows, Outcast, and Men, Women, and Children), that’s the point of trailers! They’re made to get you excited about upcoming films.
Check out each new look below to get excited about at least a couple movies!
First up is the much talked-about Nightcrawler. Most of the buzz comes from star Jake Gyllenhaal who apparently slimmed down nearly twenty pounds for the role. It’s also notable because it marks Dan Gilroy’s long-awaited directorial debut. Gyllenhaal is joined by Bill Paxton (Apollo 13) and Rene Russo (The Thomas Crown Affair) in the movie that just moved back to October 31st. Watch the first full-length trailer above!
Shailene Woodley has had a great year so far – she starred in teen-centric movies Divergent and The Fault In Our Stars – making October 24th the perfect time for yet another one of her movies. Gregg Araki’s (Kaboom) adaptation isn’t exactly a teen film this time around, but I am still excited to see what Woodley can do with Eva Green (speaking of red-hot). Check out the latest trailer before the movie releases in about two months.
From thriller to horror, it only seems natural to show the latest trailer for Annabelle next. Personally, I’ve never been into these types of movies but I understand a lot of people love horror films. Annabelle is technically a prequel to The Conjuring and while James Wan is only producing this one, his name is still at least attached somewhere. John R. Leonetti (The Butterfly Effect 2) does direct the movie with Annabelle Wallis (Showtime’s The Tudors) starring. Check out the trailer now and the film on October 3rd.
One horror movie I did actually see, though, was The Woman in Black. I wasn’t the biggest fan but at least I went, right? Turns out the sequel, titled The Woman in Black: Angels of Death, released its first teaser this week. Unlike the original, it stars a whole new crop of actors and even the director is different; Angels of Death stars Helen McCrory (Skyfall) and Jeremy Irvine (War Horse) and is directed by Tom Harper (Peaky Blinders). You’d better watch the teaser above since the movie isn’t due out until February 13, 2015.
With new photos last week came a new trailer for Open Windows. The Spanish thriller includes names like Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings), Sasha Grey (I Melt With You), and Neil Maskell (Kill List) and is set to hit theaters November 7th. Again, watch the new trailer above.
Nick Powell’s action flick Outcast also released a new trailer. This one has the distinction of having one of the weirdest combinations I can think of (even weirder than Elijah Wood and a porn star) – Hayden Christensen (Star Wars) and Nicolas Cage – and you can now see them above. I honestly don’t know what to make of this film but I guess I’ll know more between now and when the movie releases on February 27, 2015.
Jason Reitman is also having a pretty interesting year as well. Not only did he release Labor Day this year (a movie I didn’t hate as much as most critics) but he is poised to debut Men, Women, and Children already October 3rd. The comedy-drama stars Adam Sandler, Emma Thompson (Saving Mr. Banks), and Rosemarie DeWitt (Your Sister’s Sister). If you’d like to know more about this movie (something I admittedly had to do), check out the new trailer above!
