Trailer Round-Up: Foxcatcher, Whiplash, Seventh Son, and More
Happy Labor Day everyone! As we take time off work to spend time with family, I thought I’d quickly mention a few upcoming movies and the new trailers they released this past week. It wasn’t the biggest week for releases but I was excited to see new footage from Foxcatcher and Whiplash. Also, some smaller movies, like Rosewater and Leviathan, used this past week to market their movies. The rest of the movies featured are Seventh Son, You’re Not You, and Trash (all of which were pretty new to me).
Make sure to watch all the trailers below!
First up is the latest teaser for Bennett Miller’s (Moneyball) highly-anticipated Foxcatcher. The film notably stars Steve Carell in a role that looks pretty meaty. He’s joined by Channing Tatum and the real life story will hit theaters on November 14th. Check out the latest teaser if you’d like to see Carell at work.
Another movie making waves (especially since it did so well at this year’s Sundance Film Festival) is a movie titled Whiplash. It does star some vaguely familiar people, like Miles Teller (The Spectacular Now) and J.K. Simmons (Spider-Man), so it has that going for it. However, the trailers are enough to get anyone interested and I’d highly suggest checking out the latest. Damien Chazelle’s film releases October 10th.
Sergei Bodrov’s (Mongol) film adaptation Seventh Son also uploaded a new trailer. Seventh Son most notably stars Jeff Bridges but Ben Barnes (The Big Wedding) and Julianne Moore (Don Jon) are also in the movie. The trailer is above and the movie hits theaters next year starting February 6, 2015.
Next up is George C. Wolfe’s (The Devil Wears Prada) drama You’re Not You. This one stars Josh Duhamel (Safe Haven), Hilary Swank (Million Dollar Baby), and Emily Rossum (Beautiful Creatures). I admittedly don’t know too much about this upcoming project but I’m sure they’ll be more on this one before it releases October 10th.
Stephen Daldry’s (Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close) film Trash continued its streak with a new trailer. The movie tells the tale of some teens that come across a bag that puts them in the middle of a corruption conflict. It’ll star some smaller names but does feature Rooney Mara (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) and Martin Sheen (Badlands). Check out the trailer if it sounds interesting. Trash currently doesn’t have a release date.
Fans of Jon Stewart will be excited to learn his directorial debut, Rosewater, released an interesting trailer. I don’t know what I expected when I heard Stewart was taking time off The Daily Show to film a movie but I’m liking what I’m seeing so far. The movie releases on November 7th and is toplined by Gael Garcia Bernal (Amores Perros).
I’ll end today with another talked-about movie that U.S. moviegoers may not know about. The film is titled Leviathan and is notable because it won Best Screenplay at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. It ultimately didn’t take home the coveted Palme d’Or but people are still talking about this one. Leviathan is directed by Andrey Zvyaginstsev (Elena), stars Aleksey Serebryakov (Transit), and should release December 31st.
