Photo Mania: The Last Witch Hunter, Inherent Vice, and More
Hello everyone and welcome to this week’s Photo Mania. Today you’ll find an array of varying films – including Oscar contenders like Inherent Vice and The Theory of Everything – while keeping an eye on the future with the first look at The Last Witch Hunter and Stretch. In between you’ll find others like The Drop, This is Where I Leave You, and Shelter.
If you missed out on this week’s trailers and/or posters, check them out, too!
First up is a photo that surfaced on Facebook for The Last Witch Hunter. The movie (and first photo) most notably features Vin Diesel. However, he’ll be joined by Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings) and directed by Breck Eisner (The Crazies). The supernatural action film started production officially on Friday (hence the photo) so you can expect the movie out sometime next year. We’ll have to wait for Lionsgate’s official announcement, though. (Source: Facebook)
It’s not much but I’ve got a rare look at Paul Thomas Anderson’s (There Will Be Blood) crime drama Inherent Vice. His newest will again star Joaquin Phoenix (Her) with Josh Brolin (Oldboy), Owen Wilson (Moonrise Kingdom), and Reese Witherspoon (Mud) also involved. The photo, however, shows off up-and-comer Katherine Waterston (Night Moves). Go ahead and look at the picture above before the movie comes out for good on December 12th. (Source: NY Times)
Speaking of up-and-comers, Eddie Redmayne’s (Les Miserables) performance as famed physicist Stephen Hawking is getting a lot of recognition out of its Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) screening. Redmayne is joined by Felicity Jones (Like Crazy) in The Theory of Everything that comes out November 7th. James Marsh (Man on Wire) directed the pic and I’ve included a new gallery below for you. Out earlier than the other films so far is Michael R. Roskam’s (Bullhead) The Drop. Not only does it mark the late James Gandolfini’s final film but it also features Tom Hardy and Noomi Rapace (Prometheus). Like The Theory of Everything, The Drop has a full new gallery below. Check it out before the movie releases in limited theaters starting this weekend on September 12th.
The next gallery belongs to Shawn Levy’s (Real Steel) family comedy-drama This Is Where I Leave You. The impressive ensemble includes Jason Bateman, Tina Fey, Adam Driver (HBO’s Girls), Rose Byrne (Bridesmaids), and many more. You can check the film out in its entirety on September 19th. I also wanted to include a gallery I found for Shelter. Paul Bettany’s directorial debut (which he also wrote) is headlined by Jennifer Connelly (Noah) and Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker). I’m not familiar with the movie but by the looks of the photos, Connelly looks to be at her best. Having just played at TIFF, we can expect to see a release date soon. (Source: IndieWire)
An interesting photo also came out for Joe Carnahan’s (The Grey) thriller Stretch. Although this one doesn’t have a release date, I’d venture to guess we won’t see it until next year as well. Stretch, as you can see above, stars Patrick Wilson (The Conjuring). However, it also features Jessica Alba and Chris Pine so I’m excited to see more of this movie. (Source: Twitter)
