Poster Mania: Tak3n, Jupiter Ascending, The Imitation Game, and More
Welcome back this Tuesday (check out yesterday’s Trailer Round-Up if you missed it) for another Poster Mania. Below is split between action films (Tak3n and Jupiter Ascending) and upcoming Oscar-hopefuls (The Imitation Game, Birdman, and Nightcrawler) while sprinkling in a couple outsiders (St. Vincent and Miss Meadows).
So, basically, today’s post has a little bit for every one!
Tak3n – off a new title and a release date of January 9, 2015 – released its first poster (an international one at that) a couple days ago. The problem is the poster doesn’t seem to make a whole lot of sense. However, that could just be because the filmmakers are being deliberately cryptic. I’m sure we’ll know more about the third movie (which brings back director Olivier Megaton and star Liam Neeson) later. Until then, try making sense of the poster above. (Source: Collider)
Going along with yesterday’s trailer, I found a new poster for Jupiter Ascending. The poster primarily shows off two things: its stars (Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis) and its style. For the most part, I’m a fan of the Wachowskis (The Matrix), so I’m cautiously optimistic for this sci-fi movie. I take it is a bad sign the movie moved back to February 6, 2015 but it’s still too early to judge. (Source: /Film)
Bringing it back to this year, I’ve attached the newest poster for The Imitation Game as well. The poster smartly shows off its star (Benedict Cumberbatch) with early reviews lauding his performance of mathematician Alan Turing. Morten Tyldum (Headhunters) directs the pic that’ll hit theaters November 21st. (Source: Empire)
Even earlier than The Imitation Game will be the release of Alejandro Inarritu’s (Babel) Birdman. With an October 17th release date on file, this could be our last marketing for the comedy-drama. Michael Keaton, Zach Galifianakis, Edward Norton, and Emma Stone are just a couple of the names involved in this impressive cast. Check out the poster above. (Source: /Film)
Dan Gilroy’s directorial debut – the crime-thriller titled Nightcrawler – released a quad poster as well. Like most posters, its star (Jake Gyllenhaal) is front-and-center. The poster also shows some of the early quotes predating its October 31st playdate. To me, the best part of the poster is its tagline – “The closer you look the darker it gets” – so I’m even more excited for its release. Check it out above. (Source: Empire)
The only gallery I have is for St. Vincent. The comedy stars Bill Murray and Melissa McCarthy, but you can see three others in addition to them below. Theodore Melfi’s film (which played at and received the runner-up audience award at the Toronto International Film Festival) comes out October 24th already. Check out all the character posters below! Finally, I’ve got a poster for the Katie Holmes-starring drama Miss Meadows. Karen Leigh Hopkins directs the pic that’ll also star James Badge Dale (Flight) and release November 14th. For those that didn’t know, Miss Meadows has quite the premise since it is about a schoolteacher vigilante. Sounds pretty interesting, eh? Check out the poster above.
Come on back tomorrow for the latest Photo Mania.
