News Round-Up: Jennifer Jason Leigh Cast in ‘The Hateful Eight’; DC’s Full Schedule; Iron Man in ‘Captain America 3’; and More
Hello there and welcome to this week’s comprehensive guide for all the big news happenings in the movie world. Below you’ll find just one casting tidbit (involving Jennifer Jason Leigh in The Hateful Eight) before I focus on release dates (including DC’s future schedule, Inferno, and How Tub Time Machine 2). I’ll finish with some exciting stuff involving Robert Downey, Jr. in Captain America 3, Paul Feig’s plan for Ghostbusters 3, and plans for a LEGO Batman film.
Check it all out below (and head over to this week’s trailers, posters, and photos if you missed them).
The one piece of casting belongs to a pretty exciting movie – Quentin Tarantino’s (Pulp Fiction) next film, The Hateful Eight. There was a fair share of controversy behind The Hateful Eight since the movie was in limbo for awhile once a script leaked online. It now appears the film will indeed happen with Jennifer Jason Leigh (Georgia) set to lead the females. This is pretty impressive given the fact that Jennifer Lawrence has been rumored as one of the stars up to this point. We’ll surely update you more once we get a fuller cast. Expect this movie to release next fall sometime. (Source: Comingsoon)
Perhaps the biggest news of the week came out of Warner Brothers’ camp as they announced their entire future DC schedule. Starting with 2016’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, there will be everything from a Suicide Squad film (directed by David Ayer) to a Green Lantern reboot. To check out the full schedule, follow the source. (Source: IGN)
Since this little Star Wars sequel is set to come out next year, Ron Howard’s (Rush) Inferno adaptation has moved back almost a year to October 2016. Tom Hanks will star in the movie and you can circle October 14, 2016 as the official release date. (Source: Variety)
Speaking of moving back, I also wanted to mention Hot Tub Time Machine 2 will now come out on February 20, 2015. It was initially set to release on December 25th of this year. However, both this one and Paddington have bowed out of the Christmas season. Hot Tub Time Machine 2 is again directed by Steve Pink and stars Craig Robinson. (Source: THR)
You could also argue Robert Downey, Jr.’s involvement in Captain America 3 (which will surely get a more official title) is the biggest news of the week. Not only did he confirm he’ll reprise his role as Iron Man but he also was candid about the Civil War plot. It appears Iron Man will directly face-off against Captain America in the next film. To me, this sounds a little like Batman v. Superman but maybe I’m the only one? The Russo Brothers and Chris Pine will obviously return to the movie that should hit theaters May 6, 2016. If you were clamoring for a Ghostbusters 3 adaptation, you may be disappointed with the big news this week. It appears Paul Feig (The Heat) all but confirmed the third iteration of the iconic series won’t return the original cast members (even in cameos). Instead, the movie will be a reboot that features a female-centric cast. It’s an interesting choice but I’m more interested in who they get to the lead the film. We’ll have more on this movie (like the stars and a release date) when we receive them. Until then, I’ll just pray it doesn’t involve Melissa McCarthy. (Source: EW)
To finish things off, I have the inevitable news that a LEGO Batman movie is being fasttracked as I speak. This shouldn’t be surprising given the enormous success of The LEGO Movie earlier this year. Will Arnett will return to voice the superhero while animation supervisor Chris McKay is set to direct it. As of now, they’re targeting dates in 2017. (Source: IGN)
