Trailer Round-Up: The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, Foxcatcher, and More
Coming off this weekend, I’ve got a set of new movie trailers. In this week’s edition, there’s a huge empahsis on 2014 movies (if you want specifics, I’ve got new trailers for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, Foxcatcher, Unbroken, Top Five, Dying in the Light, and the documentary Citizenfour). However, I did include one for In the Heart of the Sea, which does release next year.
Each trailer is available below with some basic information about each movie.
First up is perhaps the most anticipated blockbuster-type movie remaining in 2014. Francis Lawrence’s Hunger Games follow-up (titled The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1) released yet another trailer (although this one should be considered more of a teaser). The third film (of four total) again stars Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, and Woody Harrelson. Watch the trailer above before November 21st when the movie officially releases.
While Mockingjay – Part 1 is the go-to pick for biggest blockbuster remaining, Foxcatcher could be the most anticipated movie for critics. Based on the (unfortunate) true story, the movie tells the tale of a paranoid schizophrenic (hauntingly played by Steve Carell) wrestling coach. I don’t want to give away the ultimate twist – even though it’s pretty much in every synopsis – so I’ll leave that up to you. However, I’d check out the trailer for Bennett Miller’s (Moneyball) next film above. The full movie releases a week ahead of Mockingjay on November 14th.
I also have a new trailer for Unbroken that aptly played in front of this weekend’s release of Fury (check out my review here). Like Fury, Unbroken takes place during World War II but instead focuses on a true story. Angelina Jolie’s (In the Land of Blood and Honey) next directorial project stars Jack O’Connell as the Olympian-turned-POW Louis Zamperini. If you’re a fan of Beasts of the Southern Wild (like me) you’ll undoubtedly recognize the score in the exciting trailer. Unbroken releases December 25th.
Even though we’re right in the heart of the “good” season of movies, there are some new trailers releasing for movies next year. Ron Howard’s (Rush) Moby Dick-ish film, In the Heart of the Sea, is an adaptation of Nathaniel Philbrick’s 2000 novel. It has an exciting cast, which includes Chris Hemsworth and Cillian Murphy, and releases in early 2015 (March 15th be exact). Watch the first trailer above!
We can finally get to some comedy in our next trailer. The Chris Rock written, directed, and starring film Top Five showed off its first trailer this week, too. Rock is flanked by Gabrielle Union (Bad Boys II) and Rosario Dawson (Men in Black II) in the comedy that releases December 5th. The trailer is above.
Paul Schrader’s (The Canyons) thriller Dying of the Light also debuted a new trailer. Starring Nicolas Cage (who seems to be everywhere recently), the movie tells the story of a veteran CIA operative gone rogue. If this sounds like your thing, check out the trailer above before the movie also releases on December 5th.
The Edward Snowden doc Citizenfour finishes off the trailers today. The movie will apparently reveal a bunch of interviews that took place in Hong Kong after Snowden fled the country. I’d consider this a pretty relevant (albeit a little premature) doc and it already releases this coming weekend on October 24th. Laura Poitras (The Oath) directed this one.
