Trailer Round-Up: The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, Minions, and More
After a packed weekend of new movie releases, it shouldn’t be a shock there were a plethora of new trailers. I paired them down to the seven most important and they’re below (leaving new trailers for Penguins of Madagascar and A Most Violent Year on the chopping block).
Enjoy the trailers for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, Minions, Into the Woods, Annie, Selma, The Gambler, and Chappie.
First up is the final full-length trailer for Peter Jackson’s final Hobbit film The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. The epic final journey will return Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman, Orlando Bloom, Luke Evans, and Cate Blanchett on December 17th. Check out the trailer above!
One of the more exciting trailers of the week belongs to next year’s Despicable Me spin-off Minions. It’s easy to categorize this movie as a cash-grab given how well the Despicable Me movies have done; however, after the first trailer, I’m convinced this movie has enough of a reason to exist. The hilarious minions will be back on July 10, 2015 with Pierre Coffin and Kyle Balda directing. Jon Hamm, Sandra Bullock, and Michael Keaton will voice star in the animated comedy.
Disney’s Into the Woods also unveiled a new trailer. The musical has quite the cast as well, which includes Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp, Anna Kendrick, and Emily Blunt. Rob Marshall’s (Chicago) movie comes out December 25th. Check out the latest trailer above!
At my viewing of Big Hero 6 (see my review here), I saw the latest trailer for Annie as well. I won’t pretend to be a huge fan of the film; however, I also can’t hide my adoration for Quvenzhane Wallis (Beasts of the Southern Wild). She’s joined by Jamie Foxx, Rose Byrne (Bridesmaids), and Cameron Diaz. Check out Will Gluck’s (Easy A) musical starting December 19th.
Similarly, at my screening of Interstellar (review here), I saw a trailer for the upcoming drama Selma. Ava DuVernay’s (Middle of Nowhere) historical drama follows Martin Luther King, Jr. (played by David Oyelowo) during the historic marches in Selma during 1965. The movie also stars Cuba Gooding, Jr., Oprah Winfrey, and Common. Selma releases on December 25th.
Rupert Wyatt’s (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) remake of The Gambler also released a new trailer before Interstellar. The movie most notably stars a skinny Mark Wahlberg but he’s joined by Brie Larson (21 Jump Street) and John Goodman. Check out the gambling drama in limited theaters on December 19th with a wider release set for January 2, 2015.
The first trailer for Chappie finishes us off today. Chappie is the third feature by Neill Blomkamp (who did District 9 and Elysium) and releases early next year (March 6, 2015). The trailer aligns with Blomkamp’s filmography as it again deals with robots (and more broadly speaking, the sci-fi genre). Check out the trailer if you’d like to see more about the movie that stars Sharlto Copley (Elysium), Hugh Jackman, and Sigourney Weaver (Alien).
