Into the Woods: 5 Things You Should Know
Disney’s new movie, Into the Woods, was the movie I wanted to go see on Christmas Day. As luck would have it, I got a chance to see it early and I thought I’d share 5 Things You Should Know before going to see it.
1. The Story
Into the Woods is the big-screen adaptation of the Broadway musical of the same name. It is a modern twist on several fairy tales, which are combined into one big story. I would describe the movie as a dramedy as we follow the stories of Cinderella (Anna Kendrick), Little Red Riding Hood (Lilla Crawford), Jack and the Beanstalk (Daniel Huttlestone), and Rapunzel (MacKenzie Mauzy), as well as the original story involving a Baker and his Wife (James Corden and Emily Blunt) and their wish to begin a family. Oh and did I mention the Witch (Meryl Streep), who has put a curse on them and sets the story in motion? Yeah, it’s pretty insane and brilliant.
2. The Music
In case you didn’t know, I’m a huge musical fan and will pretty much go watch anything that involves music or singing. And I was so happy that Into the Woods featured some great songs. And yes I will be getting the soundtrack now that it’s out and sing along over the Holidays!
3. Laughs and Tears
Going into the movie, I didn’t expect it to be so emotional, but there were definitely tears while watching it. However, there were plenty laughs too, which made it such a fun movie to watch. You really do get the best of both worlds.
4. The Best Scene
Remember how I mentioned there were laughs? The best scene in the movie (and probably the most unexpected one, at least for me) is one involving Chris Pine and Billy Magnussen. I don’t want to say too much about because it’s best if you experience it for yourself, but I will say that it’s almost worth seeing the movie just for that scene.
5. Worth It
I wanted to go see Into the Woods on Christmas Day and now that I have seen it, I can honestly say that I stand by my Christmas Day pick. It’s a great movie, with great performances to put you in the mood for the Holidays and while I won’t actually see it on Christmas Day, I will certainly be listening to its soundtrack on a loop.
Into the Woods is out in theaters tomorrow, December 25th. You can watch the trailer below.
