News Round-Up: Liam Neeson Cast in ‘The Escapist’; ‘Bourne 5’ Release Date; Justin Lin to Direct Next ‘Star Trek’; and More
Hello everyone and welcome to the long-awaited return of our weekly News Round-Up! In today’s post, I’ll have information regarding Liam Neeson (in The Escapist) as well as new release dates for Bourne 5, Gambit, Assassin’s Creed, and The Fantastic Four 2. I’ll also fill you in on the newest Star Trek director and news about Last Blood (a new Rambo movie).
Our only bit of casting belongs to Liam Neeson (who, yes, is about to make some serious dough with the release of Taken 3). Neeson joined a remake of Rupert Wyatt’s (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) film The Escapist. I’m not sure too much about the movie but it seems like Neeson will again be playing a badass of sorts. Wyatt, who just remade The Gambler, will see what it feels like to have his version adapted. So far, there’s no director or release date. (Source: IndieWire)
There were plenty of release dates to report on; however, the biggest one involved the fifth Bourne adaptation. You’ll be able to see Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon team back up on July 29, 2016 (because of the Planet of the Apes movie moving its date). Overall, this is just a slight change but it’s a change nonetheless. (Source: Empire)
The X-Men spin-off, Gambit, will come out on October 7, 2016. Red-hot actor Channing Tatum will lead the film that’ll also be distributed by Fox. We’re still awaiting a director, though. (Source: Collider)
Along with the Gambit news, Fox also announced the Michael Fassbender-led Assassin’s Creed movie adaptation will be hitting theaters on December 21, 2016. I haven’t played all the games but I know they’re well-received. This, along with Fassbender’s name, has me excited for Justin Kurzel’s (Macbeth) next film. (Source: Collider)
Although we still (still!) haven’t seen much regarding Josh Trank’s (Chronicle) The Fantastic Four reboot, it appears we can circle June 2, 2017 because of its subsequent sequel, The Fantastic Four 2. Michael B. Jordan, Miles Teller, and others will be all return hopefully with Trank. (Source: Collider)
It’s been awhile since this broke but I still wanted to mention it for those that may have missed it. With J.J. Abrams leaving the Star Trek franchise for Star Wars (what a traitor, right?), people have wondered about the future of the Star Trek movies. It didn’t help things with the original heir to the throne, screenwriter Roberto Orci, stepped down. Justin Lin (The Fast and the Furious franchise) will now be in charge of directing the next installment. Check back for official news on stars and a release date. (Source: Deadline)
Lastly, for those wondering: yes there will be a fifth Rambo film. Yes, you heard it right! Sylvester Stallone confirmed it recently, so it appears reviving Rocky wasn’t his only goal. Details are scarce on this project but Rambo 5 will either be titled Last Blood or Rambo: Last Blood. Check back later for more! (Source: ScreenRant)
