Movies in Theaters This Friday, January 9, 2015: Taken 3, Predestination, Beloved Sisters, and More
All this week, I’ve been recapping 2015 (with “Best Of” awards and my favorite movies of the year). As we cap off the year, it’s time to start looking forward to 2015.
After last week’s release of The Woman in Black: Angel of Death, this weekend sees an even bigger movie, Taken 3, release. Olivier Megaton’s latest again stars badass Liam Neeson and promises to see some pretty cool action scenes. Personally, I wasn’t a huge fan of Taken (and never did see Taken 2). However, that doesn’t mean the hubbub is unfounded.
In limited release, Predestination could be the most notable of the bunch. It stars Ethan Hawke as a time-traveling agent that makes the movie seem a little like Looper (minus the whole double identity thing).
I also wanted to mention Beloved Sisters is releasing as well. The drama is Germany’s official entry into the upcoming Academy Awards.
The rest of the releases this coming weekend are Black November, Dark Summer, It’s All So Quiet, Let’s Kill Ward’s Wife, Tevar, The World Made Straight, and Vessel.
Have a great weekend!
Liam Neeson returns as ex-covert operative Bryan Mills, whose reconciliation with his ex-wife is tragically cut short when she is brutally murdered. Consumed with rage, and framed for the crime, he goes on the run to evade the relentless pursuit of the CIA, FBI and the police. For one last time, Mills must use his “particular set of skills,” to track down the real killers, exact his unique brand of justice, and protect the only thing that matters to him now – his daughter.
The aristocratic sisters Charlotte and Caroline both fall in love with the controversial young writer and hothead Friedrich Schiller. Defying the conventions of their time, the sisters decide to share their love with Schiller. What begins playfully, almost as a game among the three of them, soon turns serious as it leads to the end of a pact.
A volatile, oil-rich Nigerian community wages war against their corrupt government and a multi-national oil corporation to protect their land from being destroyed by excessive drilling and spills. Inspired by true events, Black November is the gripping story of how a community rises up and takes drastic measures to make sure their voices are heard.

In a rural Appalachian community haunted by the legacy of a Civil War massacre, young and rebellious Travis Shelton (Jeremy Irvine) finds himself ensnared in the violence of the past and the subtle evils of the present. Based on the novel by Ron Rash, THE WORLD MADE STRAIGHT also stars Noah Wyle, Minka Kelly and Haley Joel Osment.
Ash has the power to communicate with ET’s, a gift he needs to be stripped of by the end of the day or risk succumbing to its side-effects completely. This power is beginning to make him one of them – incredibly calculating, but devoid of any human emotion. He gains valuable time by ingesting prescribed sleeping inhalers which keep the symptoms at bay, but are quickly losing their effect as he grows more and more tired. In turn, he downs sachets of coffee to offset the inhalers, while trawling through the city meeting old acquaintances. It’s through these human connections that he collects the pieces of the past that keep his emotional muscle working (a photo, a song, a piece of jewellery). By the end of the day his hope is to find a former interfacer like himself, rumoured to live in the city and that has rid herself of the gift permanently.
