News Round-Up: Rose Byrne Returning to ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’; ‘Steve Jobs’ Release Date; and More
Happy Thursday! In today’s News Round-Up, I’ll be balancing casting, release dates, and other misc. movie news breaks. In all, names like Rose Byrne, Melissa Leo, Zachary Quinto, and Tom Wilkenson will be mentioned alongside movies like X-Men: Apocalypse, the untitled Edward Snowden film, Steve Jobs, Creed, Point Break, John Wick 2, and Aloha (Cameron Crowe’s newest film).
For the third week in a row, we’ve got some X-Men: Apocalypse news. We previously found out that Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart weren’t coming back. Then we found out who would play the younger versions of some other mutants. Now we know Rose Byrne will be back after her role in X-Men: First Class. Bryan Singer’s next X-Men film is set to come out on May 26, 2016. (Source: Yahoo)
More recently, it was announced that Melissa Leo (Silver Linings Playbook), Zachary Quinto (Star Trek Into Darkness), and Tom Wilkinson (Selma) are being locked at to join Oliver Stone’s (Platoon) untitled Edward Snowden movie. They’ll join a cast that already includes Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Shailene Woodley in what sounds like an appealing movie. As of now, there isn’t a firm release date. (Source: TheWrap)
Danny Boyle’s (Slumdog Millionaire) iteration of Steve Jobs will come out already this year, it was announced yesterday. Starring Michael Fassbender and Seth Rogen, the movie is apparently comprised of just three scenes (written by Aaron Sorkin). You can see these three scenes come October 9th and the movie will be distributed by Universal Pictures. Look for quite a bit more on the upcoming movie soon. (Source: IGN)
We can add the Rocky spin-off Creed to our list of 2015 releases as Ryan Coogler’s (Fruitvale Station) foray into the franchise announced it’ll come out on November 25th. The Thanksgiving release date should suit the film well as does its rising star Michael B. Jordan (also of Fruitvale Station). Sylvester Stallone will reprise his role as Rocky as well and I’m somewhat excited for this movie to release. (Source: Collider)
Along with Creed, we also found out information regarding the Point Break remake and when it’ll release. 14 years after its initial release, Ericson Core’s (Invincible) movie will come out on December 25th of this year. It’ll star Teresa Palmer (Warm Bodies), Luke Bracey (The November Man), Ray Winstone (Noah), and Edgar Ramirez (Wrath of the Titans). (Source: Collider)
In the never-ending cycle of remakes and sequels, it’s been announced that a John Wick 2 is in development. I still haven’t seen last year’s John Wick but I will admit I was pleasantly surprised at how it did in the box office (and critically). You can expect Keanu Reeves to be back alongside co-directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch but nothing is official yet. Keep your ears peeled. (Source: CinemaBlend)
For those wondering, Cameron Crowe’s previously untitled film has received a title. The rom-com starring Bradley Cooper and Emma Stone will go by Aloha and is set to come out already on May 29th. It seems weird we’d wait this long to get a title but Aloha is apparently what they’ve decided on after some other rumored titles. (Source: Variety)
