Trailer Round-Up: Furious 7, Minions, Magic Mike XXL, and More
Welcome to this week and, more importantly, this week’s Trailer Round-Up. Today’s edition is chalk-full of non-original movies that range from sequels to prequels to remakes. The biggest titles on the docket are Furious 7, Minions, and Magic Mike XXL, but you can also check out the latest trailers for Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, Poltergeist, Cut Bank, and Lost River as well.
Each trailer is below along with information about the movie’s director, stars, and release date.
Today’s newest trailer for Furious 7 starts off a good week for the upcoming sequel. Set to release on April 3rd, the next installment again stars Vin Diesel, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and the late Paul Walker. James Wan (The Conjuring) takes over directing duties and I’d highly suggest watching the trailer, especially if you’re a fan of the franchise because there are some even crazier action scenes! Come back tomorrow for the latest poster and Wednesday for some new photos.
The Despicable Me prequel, Minions, also showed off a new trailer. Like the previous one, it goes into the past, this time starting us off in the 1960s. I’m skeptical of all non-original movies, but I think Minions has a great shot of being a success. It’s again directed by Pierre Coffin (and co-directed by Kyle Balda). Sandra Bullock is the biggest name as far as voice actors and she’ll play the primary villain when the movie debuts on July 10th. Take a look at the trailer above.
Sandwiched between two family-friendly movies is the first teaser for Magic Mike XXL. Again starring Channing Tatum, the sequel follows Magic Mike himself as he goes to a stripper convention (are those things real?). After some surprising success (both critically and commercially) in 2012, it became obvious a sequel would be made. This time around, Gregory Jacobs takes over as director and some of the original stars aren’t back. We’ll see if XXL can continue the success when it releases on July 3rd. The trailer is above and they’ll be a new poster tomorrow.
The sequel train continues with the latest trailer for the Kevin James-starring comedy Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2. Somehow I can understand a sequel to Magic Mike more than Paul Blart, but I guess that’s besides the point. The point is there’s a new trailer for Andy Fickman’s (She’s the Man) latest film above. Check it out now and the full movie on April 17th.
In the remake department, Sam Raimi is helping develop a remake of the horror film Poltergeist. Gil Kenan (Monster House) will actually be in charge of directing the movie (and he’ll direct Sam Rockwell and RoseMarie DeWitt) and it’s currently set to debut on July 24th. There’s a bonus international trailer above (which seems to be better than the domestic trailer) if you’re interested in the remake.
Next up is a new trailer for Cut Bank. The thriller stars Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games), Billy Bob Thorton, and John Malkovich in what seems like a promising movie. Matt Shakman’s feature directorial debut is set to come out this year on June 16th. Check out the trailer above.
And lastly is a trailer for the Ryan Gosling-directed (and starring) film Lost River. A ton of people (myself included) were excited for this film but early reviews didn’t bode well. However, the movie did get picked up for a VOD release and limited release on April 10th. Besides Gosling, Christina Hendricks (Drive), Eva Mendes, and Saoirse Ronan (The Grand Budapest Hotel) star in the fantasy-thriller. Check out the latest trailer above!
Come back tomorrow for the latest movie posters.
