Poster Mania: Furious 7, Magic Mike XXL, Chappie, and More
Happy Tuesday! For those that do’t know, Tuesdays mean posters here at FilmEquals. Today’s agenda features some returners from yesterday – like Furious 7, Magic Mike XXL, and Poltergeist – while bringing in some other exciting movies like Chappie, Mr. Holmes, Straight Outta Compton, and Good Kill.
As always, with each poster is a bunch of information regarding each movie.
With yesterday’s new trailer came a brand-new poster for Furious 7. The poster pays tribute to the late Paul Walker who unfortunately passed during filming of the seventh movie. Brian’s (his character) storyline is just one thing to keep an eye on when the movie releases on April 3rd. For those wondering, James Wan (The Conjuring) directed the film and it also returns Vin Diesel, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and all the others. (Source: Comingsoon)
Magic Mike XXL also unveiled a new poster (and trailer yesterday). Unlike Furious 7, the sequel doesn’t bring back all the stars (like Matthew McConaughey and Alex Pettyfer). However, the suggestive poster above illustrates that Channing Tatum will be returning. It also unveils the release date – July 1st. The poster for Gregory Jacobs’ film is above for you. Neill Blomkamp’s (District 9) next film, Chappie, is out much earlier than the previous two. Set to come out on March 6th already, this is probably the first movie of this year I’m truly excited to see. It’ll star Hugh Jackman, Dev Patel (HBO’s The Newsroom), and Sigourney Weaver. Sharlto Copley (Elysium) is also featured as the robot Chappie that is apparently humanity’s last hope. Check out the latest one-sheet above. (Source: Comingsoon)
To go along with the two trailers (one domestic, one international) for Poltergeist, I’ve also attached the premiere poster above. The remake stars Sam Rockwell, Jared Harris (AMC’s Mad Men), and Rosemarie DeWitt (Your Sister’s Sister). Sam Raimi (The Evil Dead) helped produce the movie that’s actually directed by Gil Kenan (Monster House). Fans of the original can check out the horror remake starting July 24th. Last week, I showed a new clip for Mr. Holmes that got me excited for Bill Condon’s (The Twilight series) latest. A UK poster also released that shows off star Ian McKellen as an older Sherlock Holmes. Unfortunately, the movie doesn’t have a release date in the U.S. yet. Check back later. (Source: FirstShowing)
F. Gary Gray’s (The Italian Job) biographical drama Straight Outta Compton also debuted a poster. It’s pretty simple but does the job because all you really need to know is this movie chronicles the rap group N.W.A. It’ll be fun to see some iconic rappers, like Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Ice Cube (played by newcomers Corey Hawkins, Keith Stanfield, and O’Shea Jackson Jr. respectively) presented onscreen. Straight Outta Compton is set to debut on August 14th. (Source: Collider)
Lastly, there’s a quad-style poster for Good Kill. Andrew Niccol’s (The Host) latest stars Ethan Hawke and takes on the morality of drone pilots. The movie also features January Jones (AMC’s Mad Men) and Zoe Kravitz (Divergent). Check the latest poster out above as we await a U.S. playdate as well. (Source: Empire)
