News Round-Up: Jessica Chastain and Emily Blunt Join ‘The Huntsman’; ‘Snowden’ Release Date; and More
Hello and welcome to this week’s News Round-Up. In the usual Thursday post, I’ll have a good balance between casting (Jessica Chastain and Emily Blunt in The Huntsman, Nicolas Cage in Snowden) and new projects (Barbershop 3 and possibly a Boyhood sequel). I’ve also got a release date for the aforementioned Snowden to report on and some Terminator and The LEGO Movie sequel news.
Check it all out below!
First up today is confirmation that Emily Blunt will in fact be in he Snow White and the Huntsman prequel (simply titled The Huntsman). To go along with that awesome addition is news that Jessica Chastain will also appear in the movie. Cedric Nicolas-Troyan will take over as director with the movie set to release April 22, 2016 with star Chris Hemsworth again…but no Kristen Stewart. (Source: Deadline)
This week, we also found out Nicolas Cage will play a role in the Oliver Stone (Wall Street) Snowden adaptation. Based, of course, on the Edward Snowden debacle, the film is set to star Joseph Gordon-Levitt (as Snowden) and Shailene Woodley. We also found out this release date… (Source: Comingsoon)
Snowden was in the headlines quite a bit as it was also revealed the movie would debut on Christmas Day this year. It’ll be a quick turnaround but December 25th is a good day for awards season contenders so possibly that’s part of the motivation? Mark it on your calendars! (Source: Collider)
For those on the edge of their seats waiting for another Barbershop movie, this week was a good week for you. Barbershop 3 will see Ice Cube reprising his role and there are talks of Cedric the Entertainer and Queen Latifah rejoining the franchise. Malcolm D. Lee (The Best Man) is set to direct the movie that’ll get a release date at a later point. (Source: Comingsoon)
Speaking of sequels, Richard Linklater’s Boyhood may be getting a sequel. Given the nature of the first film (it taking 12 years to film and all), we could be waiting a long time for the next adaptation. However, fans (like myself) would likely embrace such a creative idea. Nothing is locked yet but I thought I’d still mention the possibility is out there for Adulthood. (Source: /Film)
I don’t think I’d consider this really a “new” project but we did find out some information on a LEGO Movie sequel. Chris Miller and Phil Lord won’t be directing the film after all (but, don’t worry, they’ll still write it). It turns out Rob Schrab (NBC’s Community) will take the helm. Look for the sequel sometime in 2018. (Source: THR)
Lastly, I wanted to reassure Terminator fans that Arnold Schwarzenegger plans to return to subsequent Terminator films. He’ll make an appearance later this year in Terminator: Genysis (set to debut for good on July 1st). Two more sequels are planned for 2017 and 2018 so he’ll be back for those (although nothing is official). More news to come on those projects. (Source: Comingsoon)
