HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2 is Confirmed For 2013
DreamWorks Animation announced on Tuesday that they will produce a sequel to their 3D animated film ‘How to Train Your Dragon’, with a goal release date in the latter half of 2013, according to The Hollywood Reporter. This news comes despite a sluggish start at the box office for ‘Train Your Dragon’, which had initially led industry analysts to wonder whether a sequel was likely.
As a comparison, the studio’s last 3D offering, ‘Monsters vs. Aliens’, took in $60 million on its opening weekend, compared to only $44 million for ‘Train Your Dragon‘. But on following weekends, the film surpassed other new releases, taking the number one position in its fourth and fifth weeks. DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg commented that he believes strong reviews have contributed to the movie’s growing success and suitability for a sequel.
A TV series based on the film is also in development, as well as a multi-player online game.
