Tom Cruise Still in The Running For MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 4
As Paramount Pictures moves forward with preparations for “Mission Impossible 4,” the discussion over whether or not Tom Cruise will reprise his role as Ethan Hunt intensifies.
Cruise has lost a lot of his audience appeal in the American market, but that isn’t deterring Paramount. Executives are waiting to see how his recent film “Knight and Day,” which co-stars Cameron Diaz, performs in overseas markets. Cruise still has a lot of appeal overseas and Paramount planners are waiting to see how foreign audiences react to Cruise. “Knight and Day” had its overseas release delayed until after the World Cup and its recent opening weekend in China garnered $4.8 million. Some in the film industry would not be surprised if Paramount recast the role of Ethan Hunt in the film franchise.
There is reason to believe recasting the role wouldn’t hurt Paramount or the film. Other film franchises, most notably the James Bond films, successfully recast the starring role several times and maintained their popularity among viewers.
