Photo Mania: Fifty Shades of Grey, The Revenant, Knock Knock, and More
On this week’s Photo Mania, we’ll follow-up a slower week with another post devoid of huge movies. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean the pictures are lackluster. In fact, there are some interesting movies on the horizon and this week’s new photos showcase some of these films. Of the most note are the new photos for The Revenant, I Am Michael, and Cobain: Montage of Heck. The other four movies with new photos are Fifty Shades of Grey, Knock Knock, The Duff, and Take Me to the River.
One of this year’s biggest question marks of the year, in terms of movies, involved the release of the forthcoming Fifty Shades of Grey adaptation. However, recently it was announced that it’d broken records for advance tickets for an R-rated movie, leading me to believe the movie is going to make waves come February 13th when it debuts. Sam Taylor-Johnson’s (Nowhere Boy) film released another picture (which is above) that features stars Jamie Dornan (ABC’s Once Upon a Time) and Dakota Johnson (The Social Network). Check it out if you’re interested. (Source: Yahoo)
I admittedly won’t be lining up to see Fifty Shades of Grey; however, I will be excited when Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s (Birdman) western thriller The Revenant hits theaters. As one of my favorite working directors, I’d be crazy to miss a collaboration that involves him, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Tom Hardy. Set for a December 25th release, the day can’t get here fast enough. Until then, check out the first photo of the movie above. (Source: Daily Mail)
Two photos debuted along with a recent trailer for Eli Roth’s (Hostel) horror thriller Knock Knock. On paper, it seems weird Roth would team up with Keanu Reeves but that’s certainly the case. Knock Knock debuted at Sundance but doesn’t have a theatrical release yet. Both photos are above for you. (Source: IndieWire)
The Sundance pic I Am Michael is also getting a lot of buzz because of both its content and its stars. Zachary Quinto and James Franco – seen above kissing – play a gay couple with Franco taking on the role of gay activist-turned-pastor Michael Glatze. Justin Kelly’s feature debut also stars Emma Roberts (We’re the Millers) and is also awaiting a theatrical release. Check out the gallery of new photos below. (Source: Collider)
Although it’s not much, I do have a new photo for the teen comedy The Duff (which apparently stands for the designated ugly, fat friend). Ari Sandel’s feature debut stars Bella Thorne (Blended), Allison Janney (American Beauty), and Ken Jeong (The Hangover). Check out the photo above and the movie on February 20th. (Source: IndieWire)
Matt Sobel’s Sundance drama Take Me to the River also unveiled some new photos for its movie. The relatively-unknown film stars Robin Weigert (The Sessions), Josh Hamilton (J. Edgar), and Azura Skye (Bandits). Three new photos are below in a gallery if you want to check them out. Like many of the others, there isn’t a release outside of Sundance yet. (Source: IndieWire)
Speaking of Sundance, today’s last photo also came out of Park City. The Kurt Cobain documentary, titled Cobain: Montage of Heck, gave us a first look. It’s not a lot but I thought I’d include it because early reviews have been very positive for the movie directed by Brett Morgen (Crossfire Hurricane). This movie will release when it makes its TV premiere on May 4th. (Source: NME)
